The guy that runs the magnet at the scrap yard right up the road stopped the other day. He said steel had dropped to 105,down from a high of 170 a month ago.

On the catalytic converters it"s platinum; I"m not up on whether they all use some or if it"s been superceded by something else, or if it"s in some form that makes it expensive/impossible to salvage...

Hey all, not 200% positive on this but... make sure you take the catalytic convertor out of scrap vehicles and sell that seperate. I believe the guts of it have a metal that is worth quite a bit of $. Or so I have been told

Local mechanic told me that thugs in the city are going around with cordless Sawzall's and cutting them out from under the cars and making a killing doin it. Government's probably going to outlaw cordless Sawzalls...

Dave, I was told that some of those converters are worth more than 100 dollars. Can this be true?

I was told $150 each. I guess it it is the platinum in them or something like it.

I just called today and bright copper is $3.10 here in Central NY. I spent all weekend sripping some big old 2" coax type cable from a cell tower. Stuff is a absolute bear to work with but have it about done. Should have close to 200 lbs of nice shiny copper out of it.

I called the scrap place today and old cars are going for $55 per ton. Guess I'll not be hauling any in in the near future. I need the $$ but for $55 a ton I can hold on to it for a little while longer. About a month ago it was up at $140 a ton so I'll wait for it to go back up

That was for old cars a month or so ago. Prepped steel then was going for over $200 but its up down all the time here. One week it will be up over $100 for old cars then the next week down to around $55 like now. Every time I get ready to haul one of the old cars in I call first that way I know if its a good time or a bad time to do it. Have one I was going to load up today but at $55 a ton it can stay out on the woods for a while longer. I didn't want to have to cut the fence any how

It does not seem to go above about $145/tome here for prepped steel. Cars are about $60-100/ton

Yep sort of odd how in one part of the country it can be higher then in other parts. When it was up around that $140 I took one load in and came out with more then $300 in my back pocket then just a week later it was down to $125 and so far ever since it has been going down. Oh well I'll catch it again when its up.
