I have seen many different type of scams, but this one is different. It is a 2003 JD4310 w/loader, 655 hours for $3,000 from Portugal. It was posted on Craigslist. What do you think?

Hello,
I`m glad that you´re interested in my tractor. Let me tell you all about this deal.
Details about the tractor: The tractor does not have any apparent cracks or welds...perfect interior. This tractor starts and runs out very well and is ready for work. The drivetrain is good and the hydraulics are strong. This machine is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied. Stored in a enclosed garage when not in use. The dash controls and lights are all working properly, there are no known defects with this tractor. Shows 655 Hrs. on the meter. It comes with all the documents needed for registration in US, it has a clear title issued in US and it can be registred into your name at any time without any problem. You are buying an used tractor, not new. Keep that in mind!
Shipping will be done by Hemisphere Cargo Shipping and the tractor will arrive in about 7-8 days to your door. The tractor will be insured at the shipping company for the transport. The tractor price is $3,000.00 and the shipping costs about US $1,400.00, so the final price is $4,400.00. Location: I´m in Beja, Portugal (West Europe) and the tractor here as well and so this is where the tractor will be shipped from.
From the beginig you have to know that for the payment I request ONLY secure pay, I prefer the payment will be done through ebay. We will use eBay Vehicle Protection Program, I have completed quite a large number of successful deals using them. I have a purchase protection account for 10000$. This service alows us to complete this transaction in a manner that is quick and safe for both of us. It acts as a third party between seller and buyer to insure that both parties comply to transaction requirements and provides dispute resolution and mediation between parties. eBay Vehicle Protection Program is responsible to insure that both parties comply to transaction requirements, both parties must submit proof of payment/delivery presented in a legal form (payment/delivery receipt) by the registered payment/delivery service used. All of my transactions until now were made under eBay's protection, and for that I wish that we make this deal also with eBay's protection.
If you agree with moving forward with the deal through eBay, please email me your full name and shipping address. As soon as I receive these information from you I will forward them to eBay Vehicle Protection Program along with the rest of the details in order for them to open a case regarding our deal. I am waiting for your email as soon as possible.
Warmly Regards,
Peter
I look forward to close the deal with you.

Found some curiously similar wording on a scam ad for a car Here's the reply to the auction that is now offline for some reason:

Hello Douglas,

I'm glad that you're interested in my 1968 MERCEDES BENZ 280SL.

The car is street legal and accurate. It has no scratches, no damages, no hidden defects. Kept it in a warm garage. It comes with all the documents needed for registration in US, it has a clear title and it can be registred into your name at any time.

The buy it now price is US $5,000.00. This buy now price does include the shipping and insurance fees.

Location: I'm located in Southampton, UK and the car is here as well and so this is where the car will be shipped from ( for local buyers or for cash payments vehicle inspection / pick up is also available at anytime during 10:00AM - 20:00PM ).

Shipping: I've done some research and the best and fastest way I can ship it is using Hemisphere Cargo Shipping Ltd which takes between 7 to 9 days to arrive at your door (door to door handling and shipping insurance fee included).

The most important thing in all my activity here is that I am affiliated with Square Trade where I have a a purchase protection account for $ 10,000.00.

Square Trade Purchase Protection ?

This service alows us to complete this transaction in a manner that is quick and safe for both of us. It acts as a third party between seller and buyer to insure that both parties comply to transaction requirements and provides dispute resolution and mediation between parties. Square Trade is responsible to insure that both parties comply to transaction requirements.

If this is ok with you please reply with your complete name, address and shipping address and let me know if you are interested in knowing more details about this purchase so that I can open a transaction case with you at Square Trade and move forward with this deal.

Thank you,

Seems like one half the world is trying to scam the other half.

I decided that the idiots that keep pestering me about a 5th wheel I have listed locally, need to have the tables turned. I wrote a seemingly offensive letter, representing the ruthless turdeater corporation or RTC ( new ficticious company I just started for them ) kind of funny, however the last name of the ficticious person representing RTC contains something racist within the name, kind of proves a point, the language and cultural barrier can be used in ones favor to turn the tables on them, and no I have no use for racism, but I will abuse these people, they are criminal.

This item listed for $525, it's funny because they somehow get your e-mail address, but have no details on the item, hence my jacking up the price to $6,666.00, which he has agreed to via the usual scam they try to use. I've got the clowns phone number and have to take it to the next level now. Free e-mail accounts work nice for these idiots, I'll be sure to keep him/her wallowing for as long as possible. The letter I responded with was really funny, but the language barrier seems to work nicely, they have no clue. Criminals from foreign soil preying on people here in the U.S., really sad to say the least.

Use your imagination, have some fun with these idiots, they deserve it !

String him along. Tell him your US company is sending you to his country on a business trip, and that you need his address and phone number, to arrange to see the tractor first hand and try it out. This will get him very nervous, and more than likely he will say he just got another buyer. Tom

Have a little fun with this guy. Ask him to put it up on eBay with pictures. Then forget it!

I am sure its a scam. I look at Ebay at times and see tractors for sale and it is obvious the guy selling it doesnt own it...(so did he steal it) Maybe. I couldnt stomach buying stolen property (especially something worth $10,000 off the internet, and in another state.) If you notice Ebay doesnt sell guns, only gun parts. Ebay may be smart enough not to let guys sell guns. Because they know that a lucrative stolen gun program would flourish on that site. I would never buy a tractor from overseas.

You looking for something for nothing? You will have nothing left if you try this, because you will send good money after bad if you once get started. You know, hey I got 3000. in it now, now he wants 2500. more, so to protect your 3000. you send him another 2500. and so it goes. There is never a really cheap deal over seas. wise up.

Guaranteed fraud. Do a Google search on Hemisphere Cargo Shipping; the company doesn't exist. All you'll find is people asking about fraud.

For what it's worth, I hear more & more fraud on that site - newest target.

Tractor can be registered in the USA? Since when is that needed?

The scammers are getting better, but still don't quite understand agriculture to have perfected their scams.

Call the seller get his full name the address where the tractor can be seen his address and telephone number. Then call the local police force in his town. If he is the only one in town who has a tractor they probaly know him. The price of an overseas call sure beats the cost of looseing 4 grand. You will need someone who speaks spanish. If the police won't look into it for you forget the deal it's not worth the price.

Need Portugese speaker to check references. Doesn't sound quite right- references to title and registration for US, maybe has another add using same language selling car? European tractor laws noted by David from Wales require insurance and registration for road use- not needed here in US. Hold onto cash. RN

I don't know. I would check with ebay before I paid. They are warning against wire transfers or any instant payment. I have a hard time getting a package across the US in 7-8 days, much less a tractor from the other side of the world. The more I think about it the more I think I would stay away from this.
