jd 50 with crack in oil filter distributor,

john deere 50 with a crack in the top of the oil filter distributor. the threaded rod went though. How do I remove the center post that the filter slides over

The I & T book shows pictures of this tool (I think )maybe it was a JD book ? anyhow you can take a piece of 1/4" rod stock kinda long a foot or more and bend a U in the middle then bend each end in an L pointing to the inside. The part up inside the filter can that the filter slips overs has 2 holes in it near the top so you can hook the legs of this rod in and then pound on the U and pop it out of the filter head so you can get to the bolts. Next time be sure to use a new filter cover packing seal everytime you change the filter and don't pull it up very tight.
