I want to hook up a 3 pt log splitter to my jd 955 hydraulics. do i tee in to the main output port of the hydraulic pump and return tee back into the main output line with 3 shut off valves? while i'm splitting I won't have any other hydraulics, but I can't imagine i would need any either.
oil goes out of the hydraulic pump, into the splitter valve, out of the splitter, back into the main output line to the tractor. Have I got this right?
Thank you

Search John Deere 955 on google.com - All kinds of info shows up, it says your 955 has open center hydraulics. In that case, you need to route the fluid though the new valve and into the old one. Or vice-versa. No tees needed.

JD has done a lot of closed center hyd systems, but smaller machines might be open center. You'll have to see which you have.

You can't Tee into open center hydraulics, because the fluid is always curculating back to resivor. You'd never get any pressure anywhere (or else too much dead-ended!) with a Tee connection because then you have 2 paths to resivor, never any pressure buildup - unless you do a lot of goofiness along the way which is more hassle than worth it.

Dave, most hydraulics you can't tee the pressure side, on open center systems anyway, the oil will take the easiest [lowest pressue path] back to the tank. Is your JD open or closed center? You may need a power beyond end on your valve, or a selector that kills your other valve & directs the fluid through the splitter valve.
