I would buy my wife a new bed so we could sleep in separate bedrooms. Her bedroom would be in NY and mine in WA.

If I played which I don't, I would buy my wife a nice new house, then I would buy be a pullin' tractor, a Ford duelly and gooseneck trailer to haul it. Then I would jsut have fun pullin' and playin'. But since I never play it I guess i will still buy my wife a nice house and keep my JD B, F-150 and 16 foot bumper pull and still do a little playin' and pullin'.

What I would do is take an early retirment, and only do what I wanted to do if I won big. I wouldn't run out and go on a mad spending spree and end up broke in a month or two like most of the big winners do. I wouldn't buy a big house or new automobiles, or land, like many would, as those things just eat up your money like crazy, and you'd quickly end up spending all your money and then couldnt pay the taxes on the mansion or the insurance on that new Ferrari. Nope, I would have an auction and get rid of all my tractors and equipment, including my shop equipment, and sell the real estate. I would invest all the money wisely so I could live off the interest. I would dump everything I didn't need because I would love to travel all over the United States and you really can't do that if you own a bunch of stuff. Just think of the fun it would be to own nothing more than what would fit in an RV and would be free to travel where ever you wanted and stay however long you wanted without worrying about your shop getting broken into, or your equipment stolen or vandalized to home, etc... Remember, the stuff you own ends up owning you!, and right now, I know all to well how that feels. I did get a chance to go down and see Florida and travel some this summer for a short time and I loved it, even more than I like farming, so I am starting to dream of a life style change and if I could afford it, I'd do it, but I wish to live simply, not in lavish luxury surrounded by lots of stuff, no way, I wish to be free from that, free from material possesions and being owned.
As they say, you got to play if you want to win, and I don't play but every once and a blue moon and only buy 1 ticket because I feel like I am just throwing away the money.

The lottery is a way for the government to scam people who "play" the lottery in a pipe dream of getting rich. Some folks think that if they buy 2 tickets their chances of winning double. Not True. Actually if there is 10,000,000 number combonations and you buy 2 tickets then the odds of winning is now 1 in 9,999,998 if you bought 10 tickets the odds are now 1 in 9,999,990 and so on. The lottery is a scam plain and simple. I put my money in retirement plans like IRAs and CD's at banks. (much better return on my investment)

I would buy up as much land as possibble within a 2 mile radius around my farm. In 20 years, it would be the only green space left among all the housing developments.

Gotta play to win and I work to hard for my money to just throw it away. Frustrates the Mrs. but that is me.

In the meantime I will keep saving and scrimping to buy some acreage in North Idaho. May keep the FL place and become a snow bird later in life.

CPA friend of mine advises to NEVER take the lump sum. 99.9% are lousy money managers. Pay check weekly and waiting for the next check know anyone like that? The yearly pay out allows that group to be lousy 20 times. Most who take the really big pay day end up broke in a 1 to 2 year time frame. Anyone know the big Missouri winners?

Getting hit by lighting is about 1 in 600,000 and the lotto is about about one in 75 million. Better stay in doors.

Have 4 whole dollars on the game.

Nothing wrong with new things and taking care of the kids.

1. Figure out how much to give to charity to minimize the amount govt would get.
2. Give some to siblings. Not enough so they could retire yet but enough to gaurantee a good retirementwhen time comes. 3. Move to northerm Mi and buy a small farm. 4. New truck.
5. Motorhome so I can travel and see the USA.

Nope as it is its to hot here in the summer and to cold in the winter but I can live with it. Now if there was some place in the world that stayed around 65-75 year round that might be another question and I might just move but theres no where that stays like that year round and if there was land would cost way to much for a person to buy it

This is neither here nor there, but please reconsider paying for your child's college education. I spent two of my collegiate years as a resident advisor in college and without a doubt the kids who party the hardest, study the least and usually end up dropping out are the kids who have no financial investment in their education. There is no way I will be financing my kid's education.

My oldest daughter was told that I would pay for college only if grades were good, no D's or F's. After 1 1\2 years of C's and 1 D or F on each report card I said that's it, no more excuses. I'm done. If you want to go to school, you pay for it. Amazing!! When she had to pay for it, she got all A's and B's. Has a good job and makes more than her Mom and I put together and I'm an a--hole cause I quit paying for college. I just hope she will take care of me when I get old. Chris

I don't agree with you on this one. It depends a lot on how they are raised, and what is expected. My daughter's tuition/room/board was around 30K/year (out-of-state, state school) and I paid the bill. She covered entertainment and sorority expenses. She knew that the gravy train would stop if she didn't perform. She got great grades, from those grades a great job, and is on the road to well deserved success.

Relative to dreaming what one would do if they won the lottery, it is not such a bad thing unless someone dwells on this issue and spends the remainder of his/her life in this dream world. A few monents spent think about, or discussing what to do with a cash bonanza can be exhilarating for a short period. This house is just fine, but probably would build a new one, just because I could. Might buy that $90K Navistar International pickup truck and drive it with a fancy trailer and the antique tractors to a few shows. Probably buy some more farm ground as an investment to give to the kids. Might buy a $300K new combine and tractor, just to be like a BTO.

I suppose I could have just replied to a single one of the posters who were going to fund educations, but then you wouldn't have had anything to jump on my back about, and that would have been a shame.

An old story goes something like this: Three people, one a farmer, the other two from the city, were asked what they would do if they won the big lottery. One of the city folk said they would pay off their mortgage, buy a new car, travel extensively and have enough money left to retire for the rest of their lives. The other city dweller said that they would pay for college for their four children, buy a new home plus a cottage on a lake and have enough left to retire. Then it was the farmers turn, he replied, "why, I'd just keep on farming 'til the money was all gone".
