Neighbor is digging a wildlife pond behind our grain bins. Took some pictures today to show you the process.

Pretty neat project. If you dug a big hole like that in my area, you would end up with a nice big hole in the ground...maybe a puddle for a couple days after it rains.

The mosquito issue is a lot of nonsense. Those are some great pics. I was wondering how much something like that cost. We have a low swampy area and if I could get it dug out and get some fish going I would have less bugs and a pretty fair looking pond. Sure is a pretty setting.

I've never known a good deep pond to attract mosquitos; as a matter of fact, if this was previously swampland, you should see an improvement. Looks like it will be a beautiful thing when finished. Maybe your neighbor will give you permission to fish?

If in fact mosquitoes become a problem, then a solution to that might be attracting bat and/or Purple Martins to dine on them. You may do this by putting up some housing. Please Goggle "purple martin house plans".

Isn't that what catfish are for? Keep the mosquitos down? Got bats?

Those long stick excavators sure are sweet. We used a regular excavator which could still reach good. But the long stick just about guarantees you won't be sliding down the bank.

How far is the dirt being trucked and how big is the pond? In the one picture I can see 3 off-road trucks, those things aren't cheap.
