larry...well i still have all my money. didn't see anything i really wanted to buy. i did see a little TO-20 there tho. it was a little rough but not bad. it had all it's sheet metal (no lights tho) and it ran pretty good. it still had the starter in the shifter, which is the first one i've seen that wasn't bypassed, and it had something else i have never seen on one....the hood latch! does your 20 have a hood latch with the little lever just below the dash? it auctioned off at $1000 even.

i also saw something that kinda tempted me...a little old international cub. i walked up to look at it and had been standing there a while before i realized it was running! that little engine ran so smooth and quiet i couldn't believe it. it auctioned off at $950, and had an extra tire and wheel and a few other attachments with it...oh! and a belly mower under it. good thing i'm a ferguson guy...that little tractor was sweet.

we only saw one ten ft. bush-hog for my neighbor but it went for a pretty high price...didn't get it.

the wife, on the other hand, went shopping with her friend while i was at the auction...she won't tell me how much SHE spent today...which makes me not even want to know.

hope you stayed warm and cozy today,
-mike

I have a TO20 and starter is still on gearshift. I am amused how many folks have jumped on that tractos just to get back off and ask how to start it! And the hood latck is under tha dash right beside the switch.

myrl...i knew the starter was s'pose to be in the gearshift lever but had never seen one that wasn't bypassed til yesterday. i like that little lever for the hood latch under the dash...i have never seen one of those that was still there, so i got to study it and open the hood and see how it actually hooked up and latched the hood. that's part of the reason i go to auctions. i very sledom ever actually buy anything, i just like to walk around looking at old tractors and implements and study them to see what they have and how they work. it's kind of like reading thru this forum...it's always an education into old tractors and equipment. also, like yesterday, as i was studying that old fergie, a couple other guys were there looking at it too and we got into some pretty good discussions about tractors and stuff. it's fun!

That seems like a really good price for a to20 that runs. Of course if the tires and rims were shot, that would make a big difference. My 20 does have the hood latch. It wasn't working when I hauled it out of the woods. Since I had to replace the dash, I haven't looked to see if there was just a discoonnect or if a part was broken. I do plan to put the starter back on the gear shift. I watched my son's mechanic friend crank his te20 accidently in gear and only his young and quick reactions in hitting the clutch kept him out of trouble. I am no longer young and quick!

Yeah, the prices on used bush-hogs and tillers at auction always seem to be higher than what you would expect. Tractor prices, on the other hand, seem to be unpredictable. I have to agree on the international cub - they are a neat looking tractor. My son wanted to buy one locally and rebuild the motor in it, but I told him I already had one project with a bottomless pit of expenses and that was plenty for now.

I did a pretty good job of staying out of the cold wind today. I got the final coat of paint on the hood of the 20. It turned out pretty good, considering my goal is rust prevention and not beauty. It has a few minor dents, but like the guys say, that gives it character! Now if I can just get the body de-rusted and painted, I will be ready to put parts back on instead of off. I hope the EPA guy doesn't see the plume of red haze suspended in the air around my house.

Take care,

larry...i'll have to remember you have that hood latch so i can come and study it sometime. i'd sure like to see your paint job too.

all the tires and rims on that 20 looked good except one front one...it wasn't a fergie rim. the hydr.'s worked well too. i probably should have bid on it, but i don't know how well that would have gone over over here if i came dragging in another old fergie. plus...the guy that did get it really wanted it. i talked to him earlier and could tell he was real interested so i figured i'd get into a bidding war with him and the price would go up. also...i'm kinda saving my pennies and nickles in the hope of finding a decent backhoe/loader combo one of these days. we sure could use one between my place and my neighbor's. we're both keeping our eyes open for a deal. i'll keep looking to the northeast for a red haze in the sky...then i'll know you're busy. check behind the bushes for that EPA guy before you dump any solution or do any de-rusting.

Yeah, I gotta get busy and get a picture or two of the 20 as she is now. The paint job is what I would call "adequate". That means that if it gets scratched up, I just get the paintbrush out and hit that spot again!

I think I can hide that red plume, especially since my ancestors passed down the knowledge of how to hide the smoke coming from the "stills". I have been thinking about your suggestion that we just distill the products created by electolysis. You know that would give us a very potent condensed product and I have seen some guys on the forums who were interested in getting rid of starlings, english sparrows, coyotes. Just think what a concentrated powerful stuff like our product would do for them. (or maybe even a military weapon for our army to use!)

You're probably right about the 20 at the auction. Once someone makes up their mind that they want something, the price becomes a non-factor. On Ebay, I bid on the small toolbox that sits in the front of the gas tank on the 20. I watched two of them go way past $50. Then a couple of months later, I buy one for less than $20, in as good or better shape than the first two. Usually when the price gets run up, it ends up just two bidders going at it. It's hard to keep your competitive need to win in check and let your dollars and sense rule.
