Anyone in Central Texas or Texas have an old cotton stripper that they would like to run on about 2 acres this summer? Maybe some old iron or something.
I'm thinking about planting about 2 acres of cotton in one of our little patches to see how it does for possible future expansion. Cotton used to be grown there up until the gins shut down in the early 70s.

thanks,

sack? in reply to Tex Aggie, 01-24-2007 05:58:38
Hey Aggie,I have a cotton pullin' sack I'll send you. I can still remember how I hated having to pick-up down cotton on turnrows after the JD 16 cotton stripper. 2 acres wouldn't take long dragging a sack! He-He,Tx Jim

My 4th gt. Uncle was Eli Whitney. gt. Grampa kennedy married a Whitney.

I hope his invention helps you get the cotton in.

Start watching the auctions in your area. Lots of cotton guys selling out because of poor cotton prices and increasing expenses so going to be lots more cotton equipment for sale. The old tractor mount strippers hardly bring scrap iron price at auctions and I've seen days at auctions where they couldn't even get a bid for scrap and just left them sitting there in the weeds not selling.

Speaking of cotton,I was through the bootheel of missouri earlier this month and saw some cotton field still standing with the cotton gone from the plant and some that looked it had been stripped with a picker,my question is, was the cotton on the plants still standing hand picked?
It didn't look like there had been machine in the field.

There are plenty of old John Deere 33's around the Taylor area that you could buy cheap and strip it yourself, but be ready to do a lot of work on one to get it in shape, plus get a stripper trailer in shape as well.

There is still some cotton grown in hunt county. There is a gin north of Greenville still open.
