I was thinking of putting dual wheels on the old gal so that when I bush hog I can get on some steeper ground. I have never had this big of a tractor so I need some advice. Which duals do i need? the ones that clamp to the rims on the tractor or the extensions that I have seen on the ends of the axles. Just looking around seems I can get the bolt on rims eaier tahn the clamp on. Please advise. Thanks for your help. Tim

TMay, I run duals on my ol 966. Same basic tractor as yours! Before you get the duals....Reset you rears out at far as possible and leaving room to put on a set of axle mount hubs.
2nd.... add atleast 700 lbs/on each rear corner. Liquid ballast will be the best in sthis situation for the liquid will be lower on the tractor as opposed to cast wt on the rear wheels.
In my end of the world clamp-on duals are a dime-a-dozen. I got a set last spring for $2.00, yes that is two dollars! tires are 20% tread, all the hardward, except the Eyednuts that are placed on the tire wedge bolts in place of the nuts.
The eyednuts cost new $4.00 each from Underfervth mfg.+ shipping!
Where you can skirt the real sever slopes and attack them going in a down fashion, up on lesser slopes. Hope this helps!
Later.

Depends on your tractor, if it has the extended axcels, which is usually a factory option, you can put on the so called "factory duals" which are just two sets of wheels and tires on each axcel. If you have the short axcels you will have to go with the "clamp-on type". I have used both types, each have there pros and cons, but each do a good job.

I would go with hub mount duals, especially on steep slopes. Clamp on duals put a lot of stress on the wheel centers.
