Okay Guys...I need a little advice. My Son inherited a clear span40' x 70' Butler sloped side, flat roofed metal building made in the 60's. He poured a concrete floor in it and now wants to insulate it. We are trying to decide how to go about this without a lot of cost, and the lack of purlins on the sides make it difficult to attach anything without a lot of grief. Anybody had any experiance with trying to retrofit these buildings with insulation?

Don't know if this is the same or not but watch the roof for leaks. The gaskets on the screws that hold the roof panels down deteriorate and when they do the roof will leak like a sieve. I had to replace all of mine when I had a similar Butler building. Big job.

spray insulation. If you got money, go with the full coverage spray insulation. Spray on, it expands and sticks.

Maybe construction adhesive and rigid insulation panels?

Use PL-200 foam compatible adheasive. The insulation I would choose is called tuff R and is a composite of Polyisocyanurate, and carbon. Other Isocyanurate foams are also good some have fiberglass imbedded to add strength. Fiberglass will not be as tough, it shreds, and is easily beat up by people and mice. The Iso cyanurate is also flame rated better than styrene (by a wide margin. JimN
