I'm not real sure what you are looking for. I used to buy 3-5 a year, try to make two to sell and then sell the parts off the others. Never had a problem putting it together. Usually I'd pick up 1-2 at auctions (I went to 1-2 sales every Saturday from Feb-April) then worked on them fall and winter. Just talking at sales Id pick up 1-2 others. High scrap iron prices have pushed price some on the low end. I'd still get some this spring if I could get out.

Yah, the sales around here are kinda pathetic, honestly. Seems like all they have anymore is the newer stuff, and half the time you dont hear about the older stuff. I wanna subscribe to some Iowa Auction notifications, but have no idea on how to do so. Any help with that would be greatly appreciated.

Im not trying to spend more then it would cost to fix one of these old tractors. I want something that I can spend time and money on and have fun doing with my daughter. But paying 6-1000$ for something that needs a ton of money put into is kinda ridiculous, but maybe thats just me..thanks for the help guys

I find them all the time for $100-500, of course they don't run when I find them that way. I then work on them and get them running and useable. Then from there I sell a few and keep a few. I make a little off them if I don't count my labor that is, if I count my labor I might brake even. I make just enough so I can then go and buy another 1 or 2 more tractors in the same condition. Best way I've found to find them is if you have a local radio swap shop to call them asking for dead tractors. You would be surprised how many you can find that way. Of course only 1 out of 5 are worth saveing for the price some people ask for one

fastline is a good source also, and i don't know where you are but load the miss's up on a sunday afternoon and go driving out in the country, don't tell her she'll think it is romantic, and keep your eye open for old tractors and machinery in the field, if a house is near by go back at a later time and ask about it, unless you want the miss's to get mad, do it right then, just don't make family made when you drive great grandpa's tractor out of the musem and to a tractor pull

I"ve done exactly that. Im located in Des Moines Iowa currently and drive back and forth to southeastern iowa where I grew up. Every trip there and back Im looking but cant find anything thats from 1959 or earlier. It"s kind of ridiculous, but maybe I should take the trip to a diff part of the state? thanks

I don't know about your area, but here in Nebraska we have several auctioneers with websites. One usually has pictures of anything large of interest-seems to be allot of old iron on these.

My ford 960 that I am using and hoping to restore some day came from the newspaper. It is mostly original execpt for some one repainted the belly red/pink some time back. I was able to talk to the guy who owned it two times and was able to get a feel for him amd drive the tractor some. About every consinment sale around here will have at least one restorable old tractor in it. There will be a huge sale here in western KY around the first of March and they always have a hill side full of old tractors. Google "James R Cash" to find the sale info. Hope this helps.

Dave
