1949 8N. I am replacing the transmission fluid, and as I have read on numerous times, I removed the bottom bolt on the right hand inspection cover and started filling. I continued filling and watching the bolt hole, nothing happening. I emptied the five gallon bucket, finally decided to check the dipstick and it was way overfull. Could this hole be plugged. I stuck a screwdriver in it until it hit metal, and no trash visible, hole does not seem to be plugged.
Left it set overnight and it drained maybe a pint, but it is still checking over full on the dipstick.
Can someone tell me what is happening, and what I am doing wrong.
Thanks for your response.

Why would you use a bolt hole for the oil level when you have a dipstick?

It's common "sage advice" for the "N" tractors to fill only until oil runs out of that hole, which keeps the oil level SLIGHLY lower than the "full" mark on the dipstick, which, if you have ever owned an "N", you will realize is a GOOD thing, as it helps keep the oil from creeping through the poor rear wheel bearing seal setup used on all but the later 8N's, and into the brakes.

Dipstick and level plug? Seems like overkill to me

How did the fluid run out when you drained the old fluid out.
