Anybody feel the same? I got so much to do. My H is in the shop getting new water pump and carb done and radiator getting fixed. The other day just got the m out of the shop getting a new tune up. Got a compression tester for Christmas and tried that out on the M all was good 130psi on all cylinders. Then the B’s charging system failed so getting a used gen. Then on my Oliver 1655 needs a good tune up. The tractor has been a problem for 3 years know. With milking cows and all of the other critters that need to be taken care of. Had the logger log out the woods this summer. Got such good tops of trees and logs. Want to clean out the woods, with all of the rain the woods it is a sponge also with standing water with the river being over filled. Hope it dries up or gets colder out so I can get in there. Or else I will have to put the half tracks on the M. So many other things to do that I do not what to get into.

I'm a dairy farmer too. Don't you love it when people say "At least now that its winter you can take it easy"? There's twice as much work in the barn because the cows are off pasture, and thats if barn cleaners and silo unloaders aren't froze up!

Years ago, when my dad was applying for social security, (this was shortly after farmers were finally allowed in,) the interviewer asked why he put down 12 hour days in the winter and 16 to 18 hourd during the summer. His response' "Ever try to plow frozen ground?" (Yup, he was a dairyman!)

As Dan said, I carry a little MEMO pad with me all the time.

Anything important enough to do gets written down. Every evening I can review the list and plan the next day in order.

I get way more work accomplished just because of planning ahead based on the list.
Guys at work use to bug me about it, but one is now doing it too.

Someone use to say if its that important write it down, but I cant remember who.

But this time of year is always busy for me. Holidays and such, and wanting all my equipment ready to go in the spring.

Rick

Yes, many times over the years have shared a similar situation. And share it now. Tried all sorts of things and then came up with the answer.
You just make a list and carry it with you in your pocket. As things get done you line them out.
While that sounds simple I think there is a satisfaction in looking at what needs to be done, which leads to prioritizing what it is that you need to do, and satisfaction when it is completed. Plus, if it's not on the list you know it can be added later when the priority increases and it's not an immediate concern now. Plus, looking at the list frequently makes one less likely to shovel more onto the plate.
Works for me now and worked for 35 years. Now I just have to live long enough to get to it all.

I make those lists too, problem is they get changed whithout my permission sometimes. Like today, list was to get a haircut and work on an oil leak on the car. Guess what, haircut yes, now somebody hits a dog in the highway in front of my house. I end up having to load it in my quad, drive across a really muddy field to the woods by our pet cemetary and bury him in the woods. Drive back out, quad is trashed, better wash it, now I find out the "frost free" faucet on the house is cracked from not unhooking the hose and I have a cracked faucet that has to be taken off and fixed, now I can wash the quad and put it back in the garage, what was I going to do? something to the car? That is how most of my days go. Lots of unplanned things always pop up and it messes with the plan, so no you are not alone. Later.
