She's Back!

Overheard the little one lecturing the big one on how hard he is gonna be expected to work this next summer. Hope some of it sinks in! :>)

Rear end is now quite as a mouse; just like it's supposed to be! Yipeeee!

Its a good investment though. You are fixing them up right so they will last. When its all said in done they are strong enough to be sold to someone who will farm them or collect them.

Hey Allan, that big 'un looks mighty faded now that I see it next to a nice shiny one!!

You're cyphering comes out just fine - as I see it you have about 2 years of interest payments invested in 2 machines that you own free and clear! Keep up the good work!

There's a reason my '94 del Sol ($4k) runs better than my wife's '01 Accord ($14k)... it's paid for! Older stuff is perfect for us with tight wallets, cheaper insurance, cheaper to license, cheaper to buy, cheaper parts (generally).

Couldn't agree more.

I just can't do the "buy it on time" thing. Have trouble enough paying my bills the way it is. :>(

Allan, Hey ol friend! I see you have gotten your old #1 back from te Shop after reaarend surgery. If I may ask what was the final outcome, what did they replace and total damages wen you drove it home.
If it is "Nunya" say so and I leave it alone.
Stay well, Later,
John A.

They replaced the lighter duty 966 rear end with a new bigger 1066 rear end with all the bearings and bull pinions. Cost me an extra $400 to go to the bigger size and the total repair bill came to $3902. Cost me a hundred dollar bill to have it hauled both directions also.

Sure nice havin' it back. I told the wife it was just a heck of a lot easier to have a lot of tractors instead of havin' to pull that hitch pin all the time.

She says, "That just doesn't cypher". :>)

Hello Allan

Hey I don't remember the decals on our 966 looking like that. They were more like your 10 I think.

Were some or all the 9's decaled like that?

Dad traded the 966 for 986 in '79 and I can't remember.

Nice lookin pair of work mules.

I think that that the little one is trying to make the big one worry a wee bit. All that 10 has to do is take a good look at the 966 & it will Know it has found a good home.

Do you keep your tractors at your house and haul them to the farm as you need them?

How many tractors do you have now? Reply in pig latin if the wife is looking! hehe

Hi Matt,

Normally they stay out at the farm. But, since it is winter, I like to tinker on 'em here because it is close to my real job and I don't have to be running back and forth all the time.

I'm fixin' the air conditioning on the big guy. The semi driver called and said he wanted to deliver the 966 today. So, I told him to drop it off here in the hills.

Who knows? Just might find a cab for it sometime before field work starts. :>)

Yeah, I know. I'll admit I'm overstocked on red tractors. 5 of the jokers now and I can only run one at a time. :>(

Darned little tractor tugged on more than just my heartstrings; reached around and grabbed my wallet too. :>(

The good part was tho; when the semi driver backed it off the trailer, it hadn't moved 3' and I knew darned well that it was repaired properly. :>)

Still and all, I'm at just a whisker over $25K total outlay for the two tractors. I'm sayin' that is more than a bargin in today's world.

Hi Guy,

You know how I am. I'm old, I've bought these things when they were new also and that makes me really, really picky 'cause I remember what they are supposed to be like.

Yes, guess I always go further than I need to on an old tractor.

Anyway, Red Shop completely went thru the hitch system, all new brakes, fixed the park lock and put in the bigger, heavy-duty rear end like the ones that the 1066 and bigger tractors use. Bill came to $3902.

It puts my total money in that tractor at $18,005, which is an awfully lot I know. But, this is a working tractor, it just cannot break down on me during the summer and it is totally new from one end to the other.

Wish you guys could run it for a day. Just one heck of a bull.

Allan

Still envious. Someday I expect to drive her for the just to hear her grunt sake. I liked that old 966 of mine when it would squat into the offset disk. Never had a plow that would make her talk.
