Hello all !

I have been reading your forums for some time with great enjoyment !

I now own a 640 acre farm in West Texas that my Dad purchased in 1959 and I have been farming it myself since 1975.

I have a question about a trailer axle that is no longer made.

They were made by a company called Linco and I think they were used a lot during WWII under trailers and mobile artillery.

They were solid round torsion axles that pivoted in cast iron bosses on each end and used a heavy steel spring wrapped around each end of the axle to absorb the bumps.

I have a set under a trailer that I have used for years and it is my favorate trailer.

Since the axles are solid they distribute the load well.

They were sold with several load ratings with different hubs.

Hubs patterns were 6 on 5-1/2" (old Chevy pattern), 5 on 5-1/2", and 8 hole like 3/4 ton pickups use.

They were used a lot under liquid anhydrous ammonia fertilizer tanks.

Anyone know where I might find parts in the West Texas area near Lubbock ?

Thanks !

Mike,

You are correct in that I can replace the Linco axles with the newer rubber damped torsion axles.

However, I sure like the old Linco setup and hope to find another set someday.

Torsion axles are becoming real popular but they use rubber inside the tube for the spring now. You may be able to just get some new axles and put in your trailer ?
