I have a GMC automatic sufari van (same as the chev. Astro van) Here is my question on a possible problem. When it starts out from a stop, and shifts into the next higher range it slams into that gear. Almost like it has a shift kit installed. the vehickle has 55000 mi. Any help appreciated Stan

Do search on Google fer "P1870". The TCC valve in the valve body izz worn out. The valve body will need to be removed and repaired. most of the time this izz the problem. The trans now izz in defaught mode and applys full line pressuer and thinks its a race car, Most of the time if you turn the switch off it will shift out one time good then see the faught and revert back to full line pressure, sumtimes it will shift OK till it gits hot.

you will find that the power wire from the computer's blue plug to the transmission connector has a pinch/break in it. it will be confirmed by hooking it to a scanner and the pcs solenoid will read 0.0 volts. what is happening is that the pressure control solenoid is recieving no voltage so the valve body is recieving full pressure at all times, not just at full throttle. replaced this wire and pins many many times over and will cure the issue.

Stan,

First thing, change that fuel filter! Might be all that is wrong with it. The ECM reads the TPS and if you've got a clogged filter, it will "over-corrects" and bump pressure.

If not, and if you're not getting any codes or lights, I think you have something arye in the 1-2 accumulator. Broken spring, wobbled out piston or a bad piston seal.

It is a simple fix; take it to someone who has been in these things before and knows what he is doing.

Allan

They aren't suppose to do that and with the 4L60 trans it is a well known problem. There are several service bulletins about it. Take to a dealer or a good transmission shop.
