my ford 3000 isnt running right. it runs for about an hour and then just dies and wont start back up after for a while. i replaced the points, spark plugs, plugwires, rebuilt the carb, and everything else i can think of. i think i need to buy a real tractor like a farmall 706 diesel. enough of the gas jobs

A non-vented gas cap can cause this problem (and worse). Make sure your gas cap is vented both ways; no vacuum, no pressure. When you remove the drain plug from the bottom of the carburetor, you should get a good, large stream of gas coming out. Be careful re-tightening the plug; just a little torque so you don't crack or strip the (pot-metal) carb. The fuel-inlet elbow on the back side of the carb has a tiny screen on the end. Doesn't take much to plug it so a good place to check for fuel restriction. Good luck.

Try checking the fuel filters and screens. It will run for awhile then run out of fuel, then start after everything fills up again.Maybe the coil as well.Check for spark as suggested.

as i am ashamed to say it im sad to say i have a ford 3000 and it runs great. usually if its not getting proper gas it dies within 5-15 minutes trying going and buying some gas line and putting it on there rubber will work and se if that works. your sounds to me like an ignition problem try diagnosing the problem on this web site there is tune up kits it might just be time for one.

i agree you need to diagnosis the problem first. run it till it dies, then check for spark, i;d carry an extra plug and then as soon as it dies, hook that one up. if you get spark, next id check fuel, be sure you have gas in the carb bowl, you can aslo giver er a sniff of ether and see if see pops. it may be something rolling around in the fuel tank. my farmall would die out ocassionally and it turned out there was a soy bean rolling around in the gas tank.

Why don't you try a new coil. They get hot and break down and stop firing. If you take it to get it tested, tell them to let it run for awhile, maybe an hour or better to make shour about it. Jack

No, No, No!
You diagnose it first! The symptoms are likely either fuel or ignition related.
First do as lower post suggests - check the spark when it stops.

It is likely the coil is defunct, but it could also be as simple as a vacuum developing in his fuel tank, "cos the breather is blocked.

Why suggest to keep on fitting new parts, flying in the dark, etc., when a few rudimentary checks are all that it needed to pinpoint the problem?

It appears something is heating up and quitting. How about the coil, Yours are classic symptoms of a bad coil.
Do you still get good spark after it quits and wont't start ? Are the plugs wet with gas ?
