I have read on this site several times that the tractors must be very clean. Must have something to do with not allowing weeds seeds or virus and bacteria across the border? Anyway I would give it a good washdown before getting to the border.

US made products have 'free right to passage' on a return trip home. You will have to stop and declare it but I have always found it to be a fairly easy process.

I have bought tractors and parts in Ontario and passed through the US Niagra Customs without any problems. I made three trips and only once was I required to pull over and submit to an inspection. I don't recall signing anything or paying a duty.

One agent explained that items mfgd in the US were allowed to come home duty free. I don't know how they could separate IH product mfgd in Hamilton, ON from the US made product. Perhaps I underestimate their professionalism.

If you buy at auction, let the clerks know you are crossing the border. I think they will give you a form that should satisfy the agents. It may have something to do with agricultural exemptions. I can't remember. Anyway, call a Canadian Auctioneer such as Bryans in Guelph, ON and ask them about your concerns.
