Hi Guys, Combining Soybeans here in Ohio. I like to play around hauling the wagons out of the field every now and then.

I had 2 gravity wagons with 322 bushels of soybeans, i.e. 20,000 lbs, approx.

I tried all 3 vehicles and which one do you think was able to pull the wagons out of the field? Only 1 was able to do it without spinning out, etc.
The soil was soft from recent rains and the tires were wet and was going up a slight incline.

In no special order:
The F250 truck is 1992 Diesel 4x4 with good tread.
The JD 50 (28 HP) has 14.9 x 38 tires loaded with fluid, tread is 50%
The Ford 900 (45 hp) has new rear tires, 13.6 x 28? that are loaded with calcium as well.

Only 1 was able to pull them out without digging a hole...which one was it..
I can post back with the answer later...

My blood runs Blue, but if I had to bet on this one, I'd bet on the Deere every time. Even if I didn't already know the answer..... ..

don't ever doubt the F250 I had an old 2wd one and that thing would pull loaded rack wagons with around 100-120 bales out of fields that chevy 4x4's would spin like crazy locked in

The 50. I own a 60 and it really pulls with those tall tires from keeping it from getting stuck.

I have posted 2 picture in the photo gallery, maybe someone can post them here?

There is one listed as "John Deere 50 with gravity wagons" and also "ford 900 with gravity wagons".

Many had it right - The John Deere 50 was the winner....I think it all came down to weight...Rusty Farmall said it, right, the weight is on the rears of the John Deeres....spun it's tires for 6 feet, but kept lugging away. The 2 fords were too light...

My vote goes to the JD 50 because of the tall 38 inch rubber, fluid in the tires, and the slow gearing. The Ford 900 will suffer because of the smaller diameter rear rubber, and the F-250 would have to be weighted very heavy before it could put the power to the ground.

wet and slippery? I'll vote or the JD on 38 inch rubber. On a hard road the F250 would win. The pickup will outweigh the 50. The only place the 900 would win is on the hay baler. There, that's my vote.

I'm going to vote on the JD 50 from my past experiences nothing pulls in the field like a 2cyl. Of course your conditions may be different ???

I"ll go with the Ford 900, mainly cause no one else picked it, and I figure we should cover all the bases :)

I am voting on the F-250. I have a 1991 F-250 diesel and you will be suprised what it can pull.

The weight of the truck and all 4 pulling should give it the advantage.

JD 50
Deere stuck with them 2 cyl engines fer a long time cuz when it's slick the fewer revs ya can git by on the less you gone spin. Don't know why jus know it's so.

I"m no Ford truck fan at all, pretty loyal to the Deere"s, but I"m goona have to go with the F-250 on this one. Both tractors are to light even with loaded tires.

Too light? That 50 with loaded tires and fuel and a driver will go over 6000# with 70% of it all on 2 38" lugged tires and with plenty of torque even down to 700 rpm. JD knew the laws of physics when they designed these tractors. The 4x4 never stood a chance, even against the 900!

Probably the JD 50. I had my 1988 F-350 hooked to a gravity box this summer with about 6000 pounds of fertilizer in a greasy field that had just got rained on and it barely pulled it out. I know 20000 pounds would have been an achor. Those fords also have that cheap Borg warner 1356 transfer case in them and if you do too much with it its going to go bang! It is virtually the same case they use in the explorer and the ranger pickups. Trucks are ok for rolling down the road but not for pulling that much load. I know everybody does it but they never tell you about all the fixing either. The JD?

I think the 50. Not sure what a ford 900 weighs, but I know Two Cylinders have 70% of their weight on the rear of the tractor, so that probably helped.
