JB Weld on exhaust components?

I need to attach a muffler into a cast iron elbow on my JD LA. The muffler tube going into the cast iron elbow is 1.5" in diameter. I know brazing would be the best solution, but would JB Weld work? What are the limits when using JB Weld on exhaust manifolds / pipes / mufflers / etc?

Thanks....

What I used when the exhaust manifold started leaking on an old Ford tractor is furnace cement. You can get it at most decent hardware stores and theres a muffler patch available at parts stores in a small tube...but the hardware store sells it in a pint can for a much better price. Fred OH

Muffler repair products generally contain water glass and it stands up to exhaust heat. I think its sodium silicate. Makes up a water solution that cures hard and will stand heat. Its not as strong as brazing.

Most "High Tempature" epoxies start loosing their bond at 400 deg. F. most general epoxies will start de-laminating in the 180-250 deg. F range . Since most exaust systems close to the engine run in the 900-1500 F range any epoxy is out of it working range.Better stick to brazing/muffler clamps in this application. Shawn

JB weld would just melt in that type of place, its not made for temps like that. They do make a stuff that works like JB that will worl for what you want but its also made for exhaust system

Several years ago I tried using JB weld to secure an exhaust system on a riding lawn mower. It took all of about 10 seconds for the JB weld to melt and begin oozing out of the joints.

Yep, when I was a kid I tried using solder on a briggs exhaust. Just dripped out within 15 minutes of running :)
