Well fellas..... it was the battery after all. Finally yanked it out and had it tested seems only one cell was functioning. I guess it showed a full charge on the charger because it wouldn't take a charge. I was in the mindset if it started just fine a half hour ago it couldn't have gone completely dead in that time. Come to think of it I don't recall the ammeter showing it's usual charging while it was running the last time. Guess I should be happy I got 8 yrs out of that battery. Anyway after horsing around with the starter I needed to have that worked on too, but she's running now. Now it's off to the the other one... the 830 Case fired up showing no oil pressure. It's amazing how much oil can out those gauge tubes when they spring a leak. Just wanted thank all those who replied...this is great site. jim

You didn"t tell us how old your battery was. There are posters on the 9N/8N board who tell everyone to use John Deere batteries for replacement. Some of those guys choke and gag on it but they do get it out. Whatever you buy, make sure it"s a tractor battery and not just a car battery.

I usually have the same problem except that with ten vehicles and only about one tenth of a memory left it seems like they are all less than two years old.

You got 8 years from a one year battery and didn't question it could fail? You have far more confidence in the battery than I've developed from them failing far before their gurantee period.

You're right Gerald....I didn't really look at how old the battery was until I got it out. I'm pretty sure that is the longest any battery has lasted that I've had. Most of the time they don't make it as long as they are supposed to.
