Hi Guys,

Took one peek at that red RTV and knew that someone, somewhere along the line had beat me to the punch.

Hmmmmm. Probably that same joker who didn't plane that head the last time around. :>(

Anywho, sometimes it's okay to come in second. I'm not complainin'. :>)

See, life's not always as bad as you think it's gonna be. Now that you've got this pre-rebuilt engine, you'll be able to cut the oats without worrying about rebuilding it. I think I'm smelling another red tractor in Allan's near future. :)

Allan, you've got me scratching my head....

So the red RTV didn't work on that oil pan? Or there wasn't a gasket at all?

:)

No,

There was Coppercoat on the head gasket when I took it off and now red RTV on the pan gasket. Bearings are plumb okay and have already been replaced.

Original manufactures don't use any sealer of any kind, which means somebody has been in this engine ahead of me and it means that I don't have to rebuild the bottom end.

Gassers are due for a rebuild about every 5,000 hours and the bottom end is always the weak point on a slow speed engine. Especially so, if you do a valve job on top. That new "extra" compression will knock an "iffy" set of bearings in the dirt in very short order.

I was really worried about it because this is a combine engine and thought that it was probably just about due.

However, I lucked out 'cause someone has already saved me the trouble.
