O/T Sprayer Setup

I just got a used 200 gallon three point hitch sprayer. The trouble I am having is trying to get 30 PSI out of the 17 sprayer tips. If I bring the tractor up to RPM with all nozzles spraying and then pinch the agitate hose (the hose going into the bottom of the tank to keep the solution mixed up), I can get the required pressure. In fact it will go up to about 60 PSI (with the pressure regulator screwed in all the way).

However, I need to keep the spray solution mixed, so I can’t just clamp off the agitate hose. This sprayer has been used for the last ten years with this setup. With the agitator hose unrestricted, I get about 8 PSI at the spray tips – not enough to do a good job of covering the grass.

I have install a new pump (exact match to the orginal), but I still have the low spray tip problem

I am either doing something wrong, or my setup is wrong.

Anybody have any suggestions?

What do you guys use to keep your sprayer solution mixed up while you are spraying?

Russ, the correect answer is to add a valve in the agitation line and then adjust the regulator accordingly.

Put a needle valve in the agitator line. I see 2 or 3 psi change in mine with the smallest possible motion of the knob with my gloved hand. A coarser valve won't allow good adjustment.

The pressure regulator line should return to an unrestricted port, maybe even above the liquid level in the tank. If it returns to the agitator line (and you have a venturi to circulate more in the tank) the added pressure will upset the regulation.

I have much better control with that needle valve in the agitator line than from the presure regulator. I have a separate ball valve that I use when mixing the spray brew to get maximum circulation.

Try a smaller diameter hose to increase the pressure. good luck, jackie

I had to put a hand valve in the agitate line to partly close it to get 60 psi. mine runs about 40 with the valve open. My agitator is a pipe running across the tank with holes in it. Jd 200 sprayer]. when it was new it would maintain 60 psi with valve open.

the sprayer should have a regulator. try adjusting that, should be located near or attached to the selector valve with the agitator or by-pass lines coming out of it.
