rope works so does allen wrench etc. but that jxb- also the jxc and jxd is one of the easiest heads to get off and on-- then you can check for burnt valves??? gaskets are not hard to come by

If you can get the engine to run, use the proven old time remedy and run some brake fluid through the carburetor air intake.Just a little at a time of you will kill the engine.Do it outside or keept the doors open. The brake fluid will produce tons of smoke.

sjh, awhile back some one on here posted same problem, they were given advice of getting a long piece of rope and stuff cylinder full then slowly turn engine over with hand crank or tapping starter repeatedly. You need to spray penetrating oil on the valve stem before you turn engine over.HTH

Seems like it was Tractor Vet that put this info out...not sure though

The rope-in-the-spark-plug-hole trick works with overhead valve engines. If the Hercules is flathead, I don't think it will work.

If they are not stuck bad you can use an allen wrench through the sparkplug hole to push it down. Then turn engine over and if it sticks again squirt with oil and repet untill free.

Maybe. You might try filling the cylinders with tranny fluid and also pour the exhaust manifold full of tranny fluid and let it sit a couple days. If you can get those 2 cylinders up about half way on the exhaust stroke so the intake valves are closed. That way the tranny fluid will stay on the valves and not drain out by way of the carb
