Am I crazy or just misreading something?

In the photo ads section, I see a 1983 JD 4250, says the tach shows 3400 hours. New paint, good tires. Doesn't say anything is wrong with the tractor. Asking price $8500/negotiable. Even though the tractor's in AZ and I'm in IL, I think I better pack my bags, and go find a semi to haul it home. Even if the tach had been flipped, that still seems cheap for that tractor, doesn't it?

What a coincidence: There's a tractor with the very same serial number listed on eBay! I know they can't be the same tractor, because the one on ebay is in Louisiana and the seller is asking $18,900.

Put a one in front of the 8 and you have nearly identical prices. 400 to cover E-bay? Too much of the reset of descriptions about the same. Typo maybe?

If a JD dealer had it, they would be asking $35,000 for a 2wd cabbed model. Something is wrong there, either the seller has no clue what his tractor is worth or it's another scam of some sort. J.C.H is thinking of old basic tractors, these rigs are alot more moderen and had alot more creature comforts so they command a much higher price, and if you complain about $35,000, check the price of a new 120hp tractor just like it. After the 40 series, the prices really climb fast.

Cheapest 4250 on machinerylink.com is $25K, with 6000 hours. I would suspect that something is wrong with it...or the bottom dropped out of the market and noone told us. As for the estimate of $5500...couldn't buy that tractor for parts for that. I was told that a 4430 would bring over $7K for parts if all it could do was get itself on a trailer bound for the salvage yard.

Just my opinion,
Tim

If the tractor is suppose to be in Mesa,Arizona I'll only tell you I have never seen trees and plants like that in Mesa.

Well the Tractor is 23 years old.Is it worth $8500.00 ?? Not from my perspective. $5500.00 maybe.

JCH
I think we're on completely different pages here.

JD 4240's that are older, with twice the hours of this one are bringing 18K-25K in my area. If you've got leads on 4250's that barely start and run for $5500 I'll take everyone you can find.

If you read the feedback comments on Ebay for this seller, there is no indication that he ever sold anything. All the comments either suggest he bought something or they are unclear. And there are only a measly 32 comments. This kind of thing always makes me suspicious. I only deal with sellers who have a long history and whose names I recognize. Even then, sometimes their username can get hijacked. That was the case when I saw a deal that seemed too good to be true and I wrote to the seller to ask if there was a mistake. He said he had not posted the item and that his username got hijacked & the sale was cancelled by Ebay in an hour.
