Been making pic. frames out of old barnboards. Problem is, all I can use is the outside edges. Anyone got suggestions on how to give raw edges that faded red/distressed look? The wood is 100+ year old cedar but after I rip it in the table saw the cut edges look like the day it was put on the barn. Thanks.

Don't they sandblast some signs and cover up the lettering so it looks worn away? It's a little extreme but a sandblast cabinet could be kinda like a time machine...

Consider the following for a "rustic" look. Buddy of mine made a picture frame for his Dad. Picture was of the old home place. The frame was much as you did from old barn lumber, on the new cuts he wire brushed it down to expose the grain. For each flat he added strands of rusted barbed wire (from the home place) then using a torch he lightly burned wood to add effect.

Turned out GREAT! Just some thoughts! Also see the link - I did GOGGLE search for "distressed wood".

HTH,

Butcher Try going to a toy and hobby store and ask them. They should be able to tell youwhat you need to know. Boyd
