Mopar fans, does anyone know why dodge quit making the regular vans. I called the dealer only to find out they only sel the simplicty van ( UPS) diesel??

I live near Detroit and asked the same thing of one of there engineers I know. He said it would cost them too much to go thru the emissions and redesign for safety crash testing. There were going to be new standards imposed that they could not pass, and could not afford to do at the time.

I believe it was mostly because they had a fairly old design from the early-mid 70's and with Ford and GM dominating the market didn't want to invest in retooling a new van. The van they sell now (Dodge Sprinter) is a Mercedes design and built and sold like that in Europe. The Dodge is the same the Freightliner.
