I'm looking at a 2001 Dodge 2500 ext. cab 4 wd w/ 360 engine and automatic. 54,000 miles with tow package and in very good shape. Probably can get it for $14,000. What can you tell me???

Thanks

My brother in law has his 99 for sale, sounds like a twin to the one you are looking at, but his is cheaper. Interested?

The 2001 Dodge Rams are notorious for the plastic dash cracking. Dodge knows about the problem, but hasn't offered a warranty fix.

I have a 1996 ram 2500 4x4 auto. tran. ext. cab 360 gas. It now has 160,000 miles on it tranny is just now starting to act up.I bought it with 80,000 mi. on it and doubt the tranny oil was ever changed until I got it.Only problem I had that I don't consider "normal" wear was the diff. carrier side bearings wore out.I think Dana had some bad batches of bearings as I also heard of this problem with the jeeps.I'm really impressed with the power of the 360 and I only have 3.55 gears. If I was going to pull a trailer alot with tractors on it I'd get the diesel. You can get by with the 360 on occasion. Driving back and forth to work I get 12-14 MPG depending on weather and how much traffic I get stuck in. Worst was I think 7.5 MPG pulling a 25 foot dual axle dual wheel trailer "heavy empty" loaded both ways with a tractor JD520 one way and a 620 the other. I'm sure this was over what it was rated at but handled it fine. Never had it on a flat out trip truck only so have no idea if it will do better but think it can.Based on my luck with mine I'd say go for it. This is from a former Chevy "never again" and Ford "maybe again" owner.

I have the same truck you are describing with 50,000 miles on it. I have 4:10 gears. Best fuel milage has be 12.6, averages 11, pulling trailer 8. I wish the 360 had a little more power. It rides nice. It sits up higher that the other brands witch is good for snow and mud. I have had zero problems. I would get a diesel if I was going to do it again, but you have to decide if the extra $5,000 is worth it to you. According to Kelly Blue Book, the price is about right.

Just traded in a 2000 4x4 ext.cab Dodge 2500 with 410 gears and auto with tow package with 63,000 miles. Pulled a 26 foot gooseneck at 11,000 LBS gross plus weight of truck. Worked the 360 but done ok. 14MPG at best with no load and no trailer. Check ball joints, tie rod ends, ect because they tend to go bad at 50-60,000 range. The doors tend to rust front lower corners. Truck is a very clean and well maintained and local dealer has it marked at 14,900. I liked it very much but down sized due to over $200.00 a month in gas just driving to and from work. Now I spend less then $15.00 a week on gas with my little as my wife says baby truck. Good luck and hope info helps.

I've got a 4x4 dodge. No big problems other than the doors are rotting off. The other thing I don't like about it is that under zero degrees, the trans will not go into overdrive, no matter how warm the tranny is. Great, I have a 4x4 made for Florida.

I have a 2001 1500 Ram with 5.9, tow, extended cab, auto, SLT, and really like it. Gets a little over 14 mpg at best, but likes to run 75 mph. Tows well with 4:10 axles and limited slip.
No troubles. Just replaced original tires at 39,000.

My wife likes it too! Calls it the Greyhound. Very comfortable on long trips...

Not quite the same, but for what it is worth.
