Hi I was just wondering what kind of horsepower would be required to pull a 15' no till drill on mostly flat ground?

Thanks for the help

MR

When we bought our John Deere 15' no till drill the dealer said we could put it with a 95 hp tractor with a drill cart. We didn't have one for a while and used it on a 3 pt hitch. Needed 2000 lbs with a full load of seed to keep the front end down. Tractor was 180 hp didn't need the engine power rather the hitch power to pick it up. Hope this helps.

Dad used to pull a 14' with his 806 (95 pto hp) on fairly level ground.

I would say 10 PTO HP per foot would be a good rule of thumb. I pulled a 7' drill with a 70 hp, and it worked her hard on the hills. Level ground was no problem, but uphill was a very hard pull. HTH.

I have pulled a new John Deere 15 ft. with my White 2-105 and just sailed with it, I don't understand why anyone would need so much horse power, seems like 75 would be plenty to pull the machine I rented.

15 foot drill is going to take 130 hp. I pulled a 15 foot UFT with a 1855 Oliver making around 100 horse and it was too much unless the box was half full. Also pulled a 12 foot Great Plains with a full box and she'll do it but it's all she wants--bucking, bouncing, slipping and with black smoke about 3 feet straight up all the time.

Pulled a 750 JD with a 4440 pretty well. Dad currently has a Krause 15' that he pulls with an AC 7000. Think we've pulled one before with a 1066 IH. None of them over 125 horse. None of it overly flat:)

Now i have never pulled one that big but around here the ten footer takes every bit of a 100 hp. in our littel humps and bumps to keep the ground speed up we have pulled it with the two 706 gassers but both of them are running over 80 hp. but it works them and ya have to use the cruch on the hills. so i would say that it would take every bit of 135-to 150 with a good set of axel duals .
