Hey Allan! You got it easy! My project is an A indutrial John Deere I bought several years ago in a basket....actually four baskets. Trying to put it together is like a big model car kit with no directions or Elmer's. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

He, heh,

That reminds me of the time that a customer brought in a Torque-Flyte in a box. Every sping, ball and valve was disassembled.

Then, he keeps callin' every hour to see "If it is done yet". :>)

Such is the life,

Allan

Not so bad... in reply to Allan in NE, 11-19-2005 05:15:17
Howdy Allan,

She looks pretty nice for a 30 (?) year old workhorse. A little cleaning, and she'll be a real beauty. This spring I did a stint of work experience at the local CaseIH dealership. They brought in a nearly new MX200 to overhaul the transmission in, and boy oh boy was that monster ever a mess. The owners brought it in to the shop (WHICH I HAD JUST CLEANED!!!) and WASHED IT IN THERE!!! I was royally ticked off at them, because there was manure EVERYWHERE! For weeks afterward, the whole shop smelled like a pig pen. Got around to washing some really dirty 966's (outside!), and they were positively beeeaauuutiful after a good wash! Not bad to work on, except one had carpet in the cab. :-( Sure sounded good though, specially with a straight pipe! ;-)

Keep at it, and when the going gets tough, just smile and think of what it'll be like when it's finished! Works for my green ones, so it should certainly work for the red ones! ;-)

Back in 1975 we purchased a Hydro 70 diesel new. The dealer had 3 consectutive serial numbered units in stock. That dealer had the highest percentage of Hydro sales in the Quebec-Maritime area for Harvester. Put on a Hiniker cab. For three years this was the big tractor, but it never shined at tillage work. In 1978, land expansion permitted a new 986 and a used 806. Major improvement. The 70 then got a 2250 loader. We built a complete subframe out of 1x6 flat iron, tying the front bolster to the loader to the rear axle, eliminating stress on the torque tube. With an eight foot snow bucket, an 80 IH snowblower on the back, a Turbo air precleaner, a set of Trigg ice chains as well two sets of rear wheel weights, that unit was virtually unstopable. It would out work a green 7210 4x4 (the green did not believe in chains) doing large parking lots.( side by side- boy that made greenie mad!!!) At 4500 hours I put in a sleeve and pistion set, as the old motor was getting hard to start, but the crank did not have .005 wear!!. Unfortunatly this unit was stolen from my garage in 2002, never to be found. Never touched the Hydro in 5700 hours other than Hy-Tran oil and filters every fall. Sure miss it.... QR

Grew up running 986's and 1086's - good tractors! Bit bigger than your little jewel, but she will clean up real nice. Good Luck!

Looks good to me Allan. She's a beaute. How's she mechanically? Gonna have to split her? Or all is well, just needs makeup? That loader being in the way reminds me that I need to lose some weight - aint as agile as I once was, and slower at it too. Man that thing's in the way. Have to be a contortionist to get that cover off. Sit on the tank and get a face full of air cleaner, or twist through the maze of supports. I just aint that thin or agile anymore. But, heat in the barn would make it more palletable. Carhartts make me even fatter - The Michelin Man, except older and less hair.

Gotta run, Mark.

Look at the bright side. You have a warm clean place to work and the strength and "most of the mind" to deal with it, so get after it. Please do something with the black grill though. every time I see a picture of it, my grey spray cans start rattling on the shelf. Migraine P.S. What time in the world do you get up to have postings on before the rooster even crows?

You darn right!!

That thing is drivin' me crazy too, but I'm not gonna paint a thing 'til every blessed system is up and repaired. I'll do her makeup last. :>)

I know. I gotta crawl out at 3 to send the workload to the ladies back on the east coast. It's a pain, but then I don't have to punch a timeclock either. :>)

Hey buddy, looks like you need my presure washer and me out there for about a week. But one thing, that's a nice looking grill. Ya gotta admit, ya gotta start someplace, and the front is as good a place as any. Git-er-done. Harley
