Could any one tell me what tractors had the cummins b series 5.9l engine in them. I think these are great motors. Good power, great fuel economy, easy to work on and reliable as heck. I am looking for a 100-150 hp tractor now and would like to find one with the cummins.

I don't recall them setting any fuel economy records ? That's why I could never figure out why they bothered putting them in a pickup. Wish someone would put a Yanmar or Kubota in a truck.

There may not be any fuel economy records, but they're generally better than the average for their time. I think they would stand well against any Kubota producing the same torque amd power.....
The CaseIH 1896 and 2096 were the first applications of the Consolidated Diesel Corporation (CDC)/Cummins B series engines. Afterwards, the Maxxum's used both the 4B-3.9 and the 6B-5.9 engines. Currently, they are perhaps the most commonly used light industrial duty engine for North American construction applications. The larger case tractors (Magnum's) made use of the "C" series CDC/Cummins engines. I think White was pushing the "B" up to about 180 PTO hp.... a bit much in my mind. However, the "B" has been used in a lot of repowers of the years..... in a lot of applications. They're a very nice little engine.

The White 100 (naturally aspirated), White 120 & 125 (turbocharged), White 140 & 145(turbocharged, intercooled) had the Cummins 5.9L.

Also, the White 6125 and 6145 powershifts had the 5.9L.

Allis 7000 series were repowered with them some times. also, you see quite a few 8010s with th 5.9s to replace the 301. They fit right in pretty well from what I have seen/heard.

White started with them in 1987 in the 100 series, and continued them into the Workhorse series. One heck of an engine!

Case was maybe the first with the 1896, and 2096 tractors having them. Then the CIH MAXXUM"s were powered with that engine all the way till 2002.I know of several with well over 10,000 hours and none have been worked on. White retro fitted their 2-135"s with them also.

Case IH magnums had a few also agco whites and agco allis. There are also a number of tractors that have been repowered with 5.9s.

Quite a few Olivers and some Whites were repowered with the 5.9 engine. Seems they fit real well in the 1750, 1755, 1800, 1855, 1955, etc. without a great deal of modification.

Magnums do not have the 5.9, they have the 8.3 "C" series. Maxxums had the 5.9.

My 2096 Case-IH had a 5.9. Excellent fuel economy, good winter starter. Very good engine. The one thing it did not have was much lugging power at low rpm (not like a 1070 or 2290)

Bought a new CIH 2096 4x4 in fall 1987. It had a hard time for a while in the shed with the others. ( letter series thru 86 series Farmalls). Some nights there was he.. coming from the shed. However, field performance was excellent. That sucker walked side by side a 1086, each pulling identical 720 plows. It started super well for daily winter chores. Come spring it worked side by side on a 22.5 Vibra Shankwith the 1086. Dynoed the tractors same day same dyno; 1086 had 138 HP; 2096 had 134. However, the 2096 with the 5.9 would consistently use 2 CDN. gallons of fuel less per hour as measured by the pump meter. The 2096 had less torque reserve than the 1086. At 1900 RPM grab the powershift down one NOW; whereas the 1086 would hang in to a lower RPM before having to grab the big stick. Also, when engaging the TA, the old 10 would snap back up in revs. In 1998, during the Ice Storm (no electricty for 16 days) I put a cheater shaft on the 2096 to hook up 540 from the 1000 shaft and would go 55 hours on a tank of fuel, Sold in 2003 at 5100 hours with 3 fanbelts and 3 waterpumps as only motor repair. 2096 tractor was a;most original, except tires and batteries and exhaust pipe. Excellent unit, excellent powerplant. QR
