Hey Guys,

Finally got a few minutes to get back to playin' farmer this afternoon and my re-buildin' this old windbreak.

Only smacked my finger three times and nailed my glove to the fence only twice. All in all, a darned good day, I'm thinkin'! :>)

Allan, Looks as if you"ve been busy. I know what you mean about building fence. Spent most of last week getting ready to pull the calves off the cows and had to get corrals good and tight. Now that is done and the cows are on pasture for winter so I guess I"m more or less done for the year till calving. What to do? What to do? I see you"re building fence with wood. Did you consider using metal continous fence? Thats all we use anymore and so far really like it. Cheaper and it might bend a little, but won"t break. But than again you"re fencing horses and we"re fencing cattle which makes a little difference. Anyways keep up the good work.
David

Hey Allan, you said it, you ARE a cowboy. Your snowfence wont work, but you know that already....and playing farmer- so very true. Have a nice day.

Allan, are you butting/ overlapping those panels, or leaving a gap between them? I"ve heard folks say leaving a 1-4 inch gap helps disrupt the wind and drop the snow near the fence. Never figured how it worked, until I realized snow fences use the same method. Is the fence for that hay burner your wife has? We haven"t heard of her progress for a while, how is she doing?

Around here in Western PA. some really smart folks decided if snow fences were good at keeping drifting snow off the hiways, it ought to be great for their driveways, which went down below ground level to the garage doors! So, several guys installed the fence directly to the windward side of their driveways, up wind, that is! the first heavy snow fall showed them the error of their ways! The snow filled their driveways up level with the rest of the lawns!

Hi Guy,

Yes Sir, I know exactly what ya mean. I fully intended on leaving 2 or 3" of gap between the panels. Gotta tell ya tho, I couldn't stand the way it looked, so went ahead a buildin' it "wrong". :>)

Wife is doing a lot better. She still has to sleep in the recliner, but at least she isn't in so darn much pain anymore.

Only downside is that I ended up being the one who has to work that left-handed horse every day. And I hate horses!

Oh well, my life is just one long horrid grind, I guess; but I do the best I can. :>)

Noticed the same thing about no gap- but you might be better off. I built a feedlot fence many years ago with used galvanized sheets, spacing for wind. Rowdy animals pushed each other around, hooves went through the space and legs got cut. Second fence was 2x8 plank for the bottom 2 feet, 2x6 top rail, and 36 inch hog panel to fill in the space. Looks nice, plank provides a retainer for manure, no injuries.
