The arrow on my computer screen became intermittent in responding to mouse movements, it was a bunny problem. Dust-bunnies had wrapped themselves around the two small shaves that the ball is supposed to rotate . The shaves were loosing traction on the ball, thus the intermittence. Time to clean house?

Periodically clean entire cavity with alcohol and a q-tip.

Better still get an infrared mouse. No ball, no trouble.

But don't try one of those cordless mice, unless you want to change batteries bevery two or three weeks.

My mouse has no balls or tail ( cordless ) but I use rechargeable batteries in it so that solves that problem, they do eat batteries otherwise.

I agree with Roy. I have used an infrared mouse for quite awhile and really like it. Much better than the mouse with the ball.
