I need to have the injuction pump on my 5020 rebuilt. The repair manual shows the pump being removed and the pump drive shaft staying on the motor. There apears to be seals on the pump drive. Is there a trick to reinstall the pump without damaging the seals. I don't have the seal installation tool shown in the manual. Is it necessary to replace the pump drive seals when the pump is removed? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Stan in calif

THeirs two seals faceing oposite.Make sure the throttle linkage is wired back like its full speed ,apply some light oil to the seals and inside the bore of the pump and slide it on carefully, the first seal is the must critical it will be the one that can curl back.I hope you had the line up marks in the window right when you took it off other wise you will have to time it right.

IMHO whenever the pump is removed/reinstalled the seals should be replaced, if for no other reason as a matter of precaution. The extra cost and trouble of doing so while you're at it is minor compared to the consequences of having diesel fuel in the crancase if the old ones should fail.

I'm not sure about the 5020, but 4320/4620 have a seal with a lip, on those the trick is to CAREFULLY use a screwdriver to keep the seal from rolling as you work th epump back on the shaft...
