I can think of 3 of the 4. I heard this on a PBS special and they said that the industry was composed of tractors owned AGCO, CNH, John Deere, and some other. Can someone help me out? Thanks

FYI: All 3 mentioned are the leaders somewhere. Deere is number one in North America. The Case-IH group is number one in Europe. Agco is number one in South American. Number 4, are you talking gross sales or how is this determined. Also what happened to the outfit in Canada that made the larger Ford tractors?

I think in terms of gross revenue, the largest is now the Case/ NewHolland /Fiat /Steyr/ conglomerate. Don't forget the very major industrial segment of this company with links to Hitachi, O&K, and others.....
# 2, far as I know, is AGCO..... The Allis Gleaner COmpany. Includes Massey Ferguson, White (formerly) Deutz-Allis, Same, Fendt, Valtra, Gleaner combines, as well as the MANUFACTURING end of the Challenger tractor business. I'm fairly certain that Cat is still doing some, if not all of the distribution. There's probably a host of others that I'm forgetting too.
#3 Good ole John Deere... Solid, Stable, and staying where they're at....

Now, #4 would only be a guess, but with the propensity of orange paint showing up around the countryside, I would have to say that Kubota is the fourth largest in the world today.....

That's my picks for today.....

I had a great graphic of the evolution of ag companies on a former computer, before some worthless drugger broke into my office and stole it. The graphic showed all the changes in tractor manufacturer's ownership since the early days- JD was just a solid yellow line with no branches, while some of the other convolutions were remarkable. 'Course, its out of date now, since merger of CIH and NH, and other changes. But if anybody knows where I can get that graphic again, I would appreciate a reply.

Mike, your comment on the "tractor timeline" got me interested in finding such a thing. I started searching around and found the image I think you were talking about. I typed "tractor timeline" in google images. It popped up an image similar to what you mentioned. Turns out the image was located in the forums here on YT...

More of a strange partnership, not 'under' Agco. ; ) I barely understood the arrangement when it started, and it's changed of late, don't know who is dealing with what when it is painted Yellow and called an ag machine.

As far as I know there are only 3 full line ag companies in the US. Agco, JD, and CNH. Major lines like Challenger, Massey, Fendt, Gleaner, and so forth are owned by Agco. McCormick, Vermeer, and Buhler Versatile don't offer a full complete line of machinery. NH and CIH are now one. Which ones are left?

"As part of the 1999 mega-merger of Case IH and New Holland, European Commission regulators required several divestitures, including the sale of Case's Doncaster, England plant, a transmission factory in France and rights to the long-dormant McCormick brand.

Italian equipment company Landini, a division of European ag equipment giant Argo, snapped up those assets, in the process becoming the fourth largest ag equipment manufacturer in the western world."
