Another question not at all tractor related:
We're converting an old rental house on our farm in Iowa to use for our family and friends to stay at during pheasant and deer hunting season. (The group was getting too large to always crash at my parents house (they're getting older!)I'd like to find a used sign or have a custom made sign to read: "Harry's Hunting Club" to hang in the old house. A neon sign would be neat, but a little pricey to have custom made. Any ideas?

I would be more than happy to come down during pheasant season and build you a sign.

p.s. can I bring my dog?

We make signs (high school shop class) by having the students router the desired wording into pine, using a torch to "burn" the letters, sand the burn off of the surface wood, and seal with urethane, etc.

The nice part about this is, if you own a router and almost any bit, the cost to try is minimal.

Good Luck,

Bill

Consider making branding irons and searing the name onto a board. Look at your name. Many of the letters repeat and the u is an n upside down.

I make name boards for my neighbors by using branding iron letters. I made up simple letter "tools" from rebar and use my torch to heat them and then brand the wood. I like to use old barn boards that have weathered. They make really neat signs. An average 10-15 letter name takes about an hour to make. I guess I should charge to do it because everybody seems to want one. One guy did give me a case of beer! (The next guys sign didn't turn out too good....had to redo it)

Get a couple of wide boards for your sign, buy some metal letters and tack them on to say what you want. Sand blast the boards leaving the letters in high relief.
