I bought me a patch of ground with about 60 or so big, very big pecan trees and I’m looking for a tree shaker, I have a 80 or so hp tractor, does anyone have any ideas where to get one or what would be a good idea on how to harvest these pecans, all of the trees are native (small not paper shell) and scattered around the place pretty good, they are very easy to get to and with the price of them last couple of years I thought I might just as well figure a way to get them harvested any ideas

I have 70 pecan trees. Never have made any money off them. They are all paper shells. Can't afford to spray or to have trees shaken. Knew some people last year that had their trees shaken, and they had more in the harvesting than they could sell them for retail, let alone wholesale. I wish you the best of luck, but recommend putting the pencil to it before buying any machinery. Bob

I purchased a McCormick-Deering OS-4 tractor in California that had a nut shaker on it; I am located in Florida. It is funky looking. From what I understand, it was utilized to shake almonds off trees. I don't know if it worked well or not and I don't know if it is functional now. I want $925 for the shaker. If you are interested, let me know.

Thanks

Bill Carlton

We also have pecans, about 350 trees just North of Oklahoma City. We don't have a shaker though, as they are too big for our machines. You might try Savage, we have a small harvester from them. Very nice machine. I would think their shakers are just as good.

Do some searches for pecan shakers, pecan harvesters, pecan machinery. Some links I found. Link Link (machinery links)

Seems I saw on the news the other night there were several thousand folks down in New Orleans or somewhere down your way that didn't have anything to do right now. Hire them out for so much a bushel to shake them out and pick them up off the ground. Git-er-done, Harley
