Went to an auction today, IH 656 sold for $3900 had good tires and a loader and ran well. Allis WD45 not running but in fuzable shape went for $275. Dear born loader for 8N went for $20 hay rake MH $35 And a lot of other things sold for dirt cheap prices and I didn't drive my truck there, I'm kicking my self now LOL

I've gone to a few like that too, and finally decided- if I can buy it cheap enough, I can always get it home. Looked for a 15 foot bean head once, got the F with 3 heads for $2000, sold the corn head for $3200. Also bought a chisel, swather, stalk chopper. Let the 510 drill go at $850. Didn't want to surprise the banker too much. Five trips to get it all home.

One question why did not having the truck stop you from buying, seems like odd excuse.

The reason for not buying was the 100 mile round trip. Thats on the edge of my limit for a days drive and my doctor doesn't even like me driveing that much. LOL

Went to an auction in Broadway (Va) 2 months ago. Every non-running tractor on the lot went high. There was a Minnie Mo U something, an Allis, a Case, and some others. Some were in really bad shape. All went for $8000 or more. The only running tractor, a Massey, went for over $3000. I asked why the prices were so high (I was frustrated, as I tried to bid on the Minnie and the Allis). It turns out a dealer was there and was just bidding on every tractor until the other bidders dropped out. He didn't care how much he paid, as he was going to part them out and would make the money back.

The thing that angered me is that there were many guys like myself there that just want a nice project tractor, but can't afford to pay 600 or 1000 for a non running tractor, and this guy hogged them all just to part them out.

Wowsers, those are some good prices--if your buying. A buddy of mine years ago went to look at an old stock car, racer or something. I dont remember model or make or anything but the car was complete in boxes. The owner said to my buddy "what will ya give me for it" my buddy says when somebody says that to me I get real stupid and he said....aahhhhh.....fifty bucks the guy says....okay. What a deal. Those deals come along sometimes.

Where do u guys live? Here in VA every auction I go to everything sells high. Sixteen ft. two axle trailer with bad tires went for $1800. (I can buy it new with good tires for that.) Ferguson 35 Special (not two stage clutch) went for $3200. Stuff is too high here. Buy it where you are and bring it here and we'll sell it and make some dough.

Can't buy it and bring it there, because the fuel cost will eat up the price differential. I think thats one reason prices are falling in some areas. I advertised a tractor once on the AC board, and got responses from all over the country- they'd all pay my price, if I'd deliver. Finally got someone close enough to home to make it a feasible deal.

Here in Woodstock, Virginia prices are high too. Nowhere near what you are quoting. The rule of thumb seems to be for me, if I don't go to an auction, or if I do go and don't take a trailer, prices will be at rock bottom. If I go and take a trailer, the sky is the limit. My old man used to say, "If it was raining soup outside, I'd be standing there with a fork! Know what he meant!

They also sold a tndem axle goose neck with duals and ramps for $1100, tires where ok and may have needed some wireing. Would have been to much trailor for my truck, looked to be about 20 foot.

If you not kicking yourself, let me do it for you.

Oh well, I'm the idiot that stood by and watched a pristine 154 Cub with deck sell for $900. Then two weeks later watched a well used but well running Cub 154 sell for $600, after promising I wouldn't let it happen again.

Things are going to get cheaper. People can't afford to grow crops any more and there are going to be lots more auctions. Scrap value, that's where the old tractor and equipment market is going to settle at.

Hey Mr. old,
Don't kick to hard - two weeks ago I missed a 300 ute, in really good shape, paint and all. It went for $875.
Also saw a New Idea 484 Baler go for $200.
I was just sick. Only went to look 'cause I thought everything would be out of my financial league.
