It just so happened that when my neighbor came over yesterday, I had a new water pump and hoses for my 460 gasser in the 1 ton hay truck. So after he left I was all fired up mechanically with nothing to do as it was trying (not very hard) to rain so I decided to dig into it. Started in on it. First thing I realized was that there are no two bolts on the front of the engine that are the same. Some are metric and some SAE. None of the sizes are the same. Then I noticed that the cute little aluminum subassemblies that they bolt on the front of the engines nowadays, that contain all the accessories, have to be removed to get the water pump off.... I just hope I don't have to pull the pulley off the PS pump to get that bracket off.....like on the 350 chev. Then it has an OEM oil cooler mounted between the water pump inlet and the bottom of the radiator requiring 2 hoses. None of the after market parts houses had them..... .Ford wanted $27 each for both hoses and one was just a hose, about 2" in dia. with a 90 degree bend in it. Couldn't believe it. Oh well. I'm half way there.....to getting the pump off. I'm changing the pump cause coolant was coming out of the weep hole signaling a bad shaft seal. But after I got the belts off, I noticed that the shaft bearings were shot. You could wobble the shaft big time. Just a matter of time before the whole shootin match went thru the radiator..... so if your weep hole is a leakin you might just bite the bullet and change her out....might save you some big bucks later on.
