Last year we had an over abundance of sunflowers sprout where I've never seen em before. They were solid in fields that have been in CRP grass for several years. I don't know if the sunflowers have anything to do with it or not, but now I'm over run with Mice, the suckers are getting under the vehicle hoods and building nest on the engines. They will chew thru wires and vacuum hoses, when it would have been easy to step over them. I have built several, for mouse only Condo's" complete with a full Buffet. It hasn't made a dent in the mouse population that I can tell, so I'm thinking of add'n a beverage to go with the Buffet. Does anyone know if Mice will drink anti freeze??? I don't really care what PETA thinks about this, only you guys.. I don't have any anti freeze here, but I'll head into Town and fetch some if it is the beverage of choice for mice.

Redmud,Easy way to get the suckers is to take a 5 gallon pail,a cloths hanger, pill tube and peanut butter. Here goes, drill two holes-one on each side on top of pail to fit wire hanger.Take pill tube and melt or drill each end to slide wire thru. Now cut the hanger so you have enough to reach from one side of pail to other, slide wire thru one side of pail thru pill tube and out the other side of pail.Bend the ends of the wire to keep from sliding out of the holes in the pail.Center pill tube on the wire and cover with peanut butter. Now take a couple pieces of scrape wood and make ramps up to the wire.Make sure the the pill tube spins on the wire and fill 1/4 full of water. With this set-up I"ve hade more than a dozen just overnite. When freezing out don"t add water and they will die from exposure. This set up can be modified to suit whatever you have on hand.Good luck and let us know how it works out.

Although I hate cats, get a cat or two if you have alot of mice out side. Before that though. Eliminate all food sources and water spots they can get h2o. After a day or two put out lots of rat mice bait. At least 2 different kinds as some wont eat certain brands. I have good luck with" jaguer" and " just one bite". Unless you want all other critters dead make sure you use bait stations. Keep feeding the stuff and if you have a lot of mice you will have a nice dead smell around your place for about a week. You may have to do this constant for a few years to really knock them out.

Rumor has it that a bit of Golden Malarin mixed with soda will kill just about anything. Quickly

I've had success with setting out dishes of instant potato stuff, with a dish of water. They eat the flakes, drink and swell up to the bursting point. And it's non-toxic.

Good luck,
Anthony.

What you need is a rat terrier dog. They are a very effecient rat and mouse control.

DO NOT place antifreeze around unless you want your dogs dead, grandkids dead, cats dead, squirrels dead. You get my point. Ignore stuff like giving them Pepsi 'cause they can't burp - old wives' tale. First, remove whatever it is the mice are after, even if its seeds in the field. Disc 'em under if you have to. Clean around vehicle graveyards, lumber piles, all that stuff so there's no good hiding and/or nesting places. Then get a couple of barn cats. They're cheap to keep, will look after themselves, and keep your place clean of mice, snakes, wild cheese, etc. Don't try to make them your friends, however, as they will be indifferent to your emotional needs.

I don't think the anti-freeze will work in warm weather, only in cold weather when all other water sources are frozen over. One idea I know for sure works, a 5 gallon bucket, about half full of water, and some food that the mice really like floating on top of the water. Make a ramp out of whatever so the mice can get to the top of the bucket, they will then go in after the food, and they cannot climb up the slick sides to get back out, so they drown. You will need to empty the bucket at least once a day for a few days.

Rusty, I have buckets fixed for the suckers, I had to cut mouse holes in the sides up near the top, and had to put the tops back on the buckets. The coons and possums were lick'n all the peanut butter off over nite that I smeared inside the buckets. And I did have a fat possum one morning in one bucket, she didn't hold her breath long enough though... and your right, they will catch mice.. I have an order in for cats, but coyotes and Bobcats are sure tuff on country kitties. You would think they would catch mice and leave the cats be.

Last winter, I liveraly dabbed peanut butter about 4" below the rim of a 5 gal plastic buckets. I was worried about the water freezing so I used RV antifreeze for the drowning pool. In 3 locations, I didn't get one mouse. Don't know if it was the antifreeze or some other mistake I made.

If you have a cat or a dog, it will kill them too. Course if you had a cat, maybe there wouldn't be as many mice. I got 4, never see a mouse.

I have cats - lots of 'em - people around here think I have a cat farm!! Just got a new batch of kittens and present head count is around 15.
They all live in my barn - haven't seen a mouse in years... No - I don't feed them.
The coyotes and gravel road help with population control. All in all, it's a pretty good setup.

Sounds like a way, but then you gotta clean the little fur patches off of your barn walls after they explode. LOL

Mice have a system a lot like cattle, if mice get into cola, or something that gives them gas, does the same thing as when you see the angus out in the hayfield with all four pointing towards the sky, neither animal can belch! little tins of Coca-Cola will do the trick, also try dryer-softener sheets, they hate the smell. john in nebraska

John, I did the dryer sheets under our surburban hood two or three days ago, they mixed them with the fiberglass from the bottom side of the hood and made a nest on top of the air cleaner. I had heard that about the bounce sheets, it may have been here on YT. but no one told the dang mice. I'm gona try the Coke and see what happens.
Thanks
