I got an ad in the mail for a tractor blue book. It appears that this would be something nice to have around, but are they accurate or are we back to location, location, location, like realestate. What are the other opinions of this book?

Hotline's 2 book series was a good thing. it is a national average of prices from dealers and from farm auctions. The problem is if none of your model tractor sold that year, or if only a couple did the price could end up real high or real low.....

The latter versions the past few years stopped carrying compact tactors and old tractors - they have specialized books for those now. Makes their Equipment Guide worth less tho without all the info as they used to have.

If you have the Intec version, they are a little skimpier with info on each tractor, but still a good little guide to have.

As you say, local conditions can affect prices for you, but many dealers go by these price guides so you will find it real helpful.

In my opinion the blie book would be a nice tool for a banker, appraiser, or maybe a used machinery dealer, and would be used for very general guidelines only. The book would be of very little use in the real world.

I agree with RustyFarmall...
Tractor prices go all over the place - a lot of times without rhyme or reason.
Even if the book says a 300U is worth $$$$, it's really only worth what the seller can get the buyer to pay. I'd check local prices of comparable makes and models and go with that.
Just MHO...

It's just something general to go by and if the same one I'm thinking about it does have lots of reference specs on each model. It will depend on your location, local economy, and demand too like anything else. Most dealers now use the online appraisal services that you subscribe to.

Don't ask me how I got them but I have two which are now getting outdated. I wouldn't put too much stock in the values. They are an excellent source for specs, serial nos. etc. If I had to pay what they are probably worth I likely wouldn't have them. my 2 cents

Hi BW,

From past experience with the Kelly Blue book and NADA book, proves that the prices listed are phony and not even close to the real world pricing.

Example:
My 02 F350 CC DRW PSD 4wd, was listed at $33k and change in 2001, 2002 and 2003 with 15k miles average on the clock when on Sept 2001 I paid $30977 brand new with 18 miles. Yes I was comparring the same options.

Why would some phony tractor guide be any different?

I wish I had that problem!! My 88 F150 is worth maybe $950 according to them. Edmunds says $700. If the paint and body weren't so bad(paint is flaking off) I mihgt consider useing it as a trade-in. I'll probably run 'er to the ground, fix whatever's busted and do it all over again.

Hi, T-Bone, I agree with you, my 2001 Dodge Dually shows up on the Kelly Blue book as being worth almost what I paid for it... Only 36,000 miles, but it is 4 years old.... My neighbor across the road bought a 2004 one (New) for only a few thousand more than Kelly had mine listed at... There are a lot of Smoke & Mirrors in the Auto business, But most of us are able to see beyond the BS.....
