hi again, guys,..after getting the gas tank on this MM v cleaned, de-rusted, and treated, ..i'm ready to try again. I recieved a manual for this tractor and read the float setting for this carb is to be set at 1 5/64. Can anyone shed some light on how to go about this such as measuring from where to where. My original problem was,.fuel entering carb but not being pulled up into the cylinders. When releasing the starter rod, stopping the cranking,..fuel would run out of the opening that leads to the oil bath filter. Can anyone help with advice or instruction..?

Even if everything is set right sometimes you have that same problem of not getting up to the cylinders because of low engine compression, leaky valves,or it sat for a long time and the rings are dry not sealing as good as they should.

I don't have any specs. on that model carb. but generally most all floats seem to end up setting level with the housings when holding it upside down and just looking at it.

thanks....would you reccomend engine kit rebuild at this point..? I've had this tractor cranked and running like a top before rust in the tank became a problem. I drove it around my place for a couple of days before having problems,..it seemed to run excellently,..but then began missing and sputtering. That's when i decided to get the tank cleaned.

I would check the compression and see where your at so you know. Any recommendations of engine work would have to be based on things like compression readings, oil consumption, power, and also what you plan to use it for. I have had alot of tired worn out engines still start and run good with a good tune up and minor repairs.

thanks Mike,..i think i've gotten responses from you before and i really appreciate it. I have turned the motor by turning the fan and placing my finger over the first plug port and the pressure seems to want to push my finger off the port. So, being as the engine has run before in the past weeks, untill rust became a problem,..i tend to believe the problem lies within the carb,..maybe float or maybe even stopped up with rust. I'll take your advice and check compresion just to be sure anyway.

thanks again
