My wife's 86 yr old grand-dad has an old MS-85 that we finally got started after sitting idle for 3-4 yrs. We can't get it into any gear without grinding gears. The hydraulic fluid looks milky colored and I'm thinking it should be replaced but the dip stick is missing to check the level. Can anyone tell me how much fresh fluid I should put in?

Thanks, Ray

I used to have an 85 and I am sure the book is still around here. I'll hunt it up and post back here. If the fluid is milky, figure on changing it at least once in the very near future.

Don"t know but it sounds like your clutch/throw-out is sticking or out of adjustment. Have you searched "capacities" or "fluid level" on this site(at top of page), probably been asked several times before.

Thanks for the reply MF#1. Searched the site but found nothing specific to MF 85 model. I agree it sounds like a sticking clutch/throw-out. Can it free up on it's own with new fluids or is open heart surgery the only option if it IS the problem?

Yes, it can but it "probably" needs adjustment. Should have mentioned before to search on the MF page and visit "Big Dean"s website" below.
