A week or two ago I asked your advice on what to use for a bridge, and I appreciate your responses. Here is where I am now, I have found a good source for beams and I am wondering if 8" will be enough, also what should I use for decking 2x oak, pine?, any other options???
Thanks
Matthew in NC

We put a bridge in at a buddies hunting camp using 2 school bus frames welded together and cemented beams in the creek for support then decked with 2.5" oak cut from his property so cost was low. Saturated boards with oi. A big motor home, dump truck and trailer with backhoe drives over it nicely..Eric

The size of the beams would depend on the span and the concentration of the load, I would consult an engineering source or an engineer. I believe there is a website called engineers edge that has a lot of information.

The decking should be pressure treated lumber, if not that, then 2" "white oak".

Pine, red oak and most others rot quite fast these days.
