Anyone who has ever managed to replace the blades on King Kutter Rotary Mower...Help! Any tricks to pass on would be helpful. I've tried heating the bolt in the center to get it off, but I can't get any real pressure on it because the blades turn. I'm sure someone has a really easy way to deal with this, right? Thanks!

i think you are trying to turn the bolts the wrong way, my kingcutter has left hand treads, on the blades, use a 2/4 or pc. wood wedge it between blade an cutter, on the end of the blade, use a felk handle, short pc pipe on end handle, good 6 point socket, once you get them off then you know, rest of the brands mentioned are just junk,

Remove as stated in posts below. REPLACE with new bolts and nuts, now that you have heated them. You do not want to have even the slightest risk of losing a blade due to bolt breaking.

Next time buy a Woods mower. I can change the blades on my mower in under 10 min, with very little effort. I have a 6 ft cutter. I don't know why others don't have a better system for changing blades. stan

Chief, Robert,

I dunno 'bout that.

I compared the Woods vs the KK settin' side by side when I bought mine. That Woods outfit sure looks flimsy to me. Not nearly as heavy built as the KK Heavy duty model.

I agree with you, Allan. The comparison of the weights on the respective manufacturers web sites shows the KK to be about 50 lbs heavier than the Woods. I can't see paying twice as much for the kind of use I'll put my KK to.

Hi Jerry,

The one thing I did like about the Woods tho, was that they come equipped with the tire protector; all the KK has is the bolt holes for mounting one.

I'm thinking strongly about stringin' an old tire chain or a chunk of belting across the front of 'er just to be on the safe side. Dunno, all that spinnin' iron under there makes me nervous. :>)

Also, guess I didn't realize they were that heavy; gotta get me some weights on the front of that tractor to hold the front end down. Not used to mowin' while drivin' with the brakes. :>)

I just got a new KK and my blade bolts have steel locktite on them(i.e. the nut/bolt end has a spot weld on it!). I reckon the "blue flame wrench" will be required to change the blades out. If yours are just torqued on than using a 3/4" drive socket and breaker bar and some penetrating oil should get you started. An impact wrench would probably help also. If you're worried about the blade carrier turning, leave the drive shaft attached to the PTO with the PTO engaged.(Engine off, of course.)The bolt is accessible from the top of the deck through the big hole behind the gearbox.

clue I have a king cutter and there is about a 2"hole in the top across from the gear box ,you take a 1 1/8 " socket and stick on the nut and turn it , you don't have to hold it from the bottom as the bolt has a keyway that sticks to the flywheel or disk. You may need someone to lay down and hold bolt in place in the keyway until you get tap and lockwasher started .I like to use an angle grinder without taking the blades off.Good luck !
