All geared up to play farmer today and gettin' this ol' sister ready to go.

Out of a total of 48 bearings, only found 3 bad and out of the 72 spiders, only have to replace 2.

Not too shabby considering how cheap the ol' darlin' was on the farm sale.

The cat has already been fixed. :>)

Allan, Juuust wait! after not being used for a few years, and after 20 acres will tell the tail. Ours was run every spring. There were days we replaces 2 to 3 a day and days were didn't have to replace any at all. If this ol Chicken Picker has sat idle for 2 spring seasons in a row you better have a bushel basket of bearins waiting in the wings. It could get right entertaining around you place here directly. Have fun! Later,
John A.

John,

You think I should just go ahead and replace 'em all then?

Allan This Ol-Darlin of yours will probably prove me wrong and not have a one go down, At least see if your local bearing supply house has a bushel basket full of them or can get them over night.
Later,
John A.

naw don't do that, just go ahead and buy a case of them and through them on the tractor when you use it. Hehe no need in preventive maintenance when you can do it in the field.:)

heck if that thing is like and old Gleaner combine we had it wouldn't matter if you did replace them all right now,one of them will still go bad right in the middle of the field:)

That is very good advice. I have found that if you have parts in the field handy in case of a breakdown that part will never fail it is always something you don't have.

And that"s the truth! I have an old John Deere sickle mower. I broke the pitman stick every year the first two years I used it. I finally figured out that the pitman only breaks when in use. And when it"s in use, it"s darned in convenient to have to stop and run to the JD dealer for another one. So I bought two, one for a spare. That was 3 years ago and I"ve never broken one since!
