Guys,

I just gotta get up on my soap-box for a minute.

I've been snoopin' around here for a while now and have got to know some of ya pretty darned well.

This job of mine has me tied to this desk 7 days a week and I can't get out and about like a lot of you can.

The wife and I have been picking up odds and ends for the past couple of years so that we can go out and play farmer again like we used to. It's what we wanna do and what we will do it, so help me, be it a silly idea or not.

Anyway, I just got off the phone with a nice man who has offered and who is arranging to buy some machinery for me, which will be coming up at auction.

Buying at auction is scary enough, but can you imagine putting faith in someone else, whom you don't even know, to do your looking, your searching, the assessing of the equipment, and buying for you and still get the best and lowest price he can?

I'm telling ya, I am amazed at the honesty, the moral value and the downright high integrity of the folks who frequent this site.

It just makes one put some faith back in the old human race again.

Thanks guys, you really don't know how much you've helped this old farmer out over the past few years. :>)

Hey allan,

I know its hard to get to every auction. I have come across this site but have not used it.(proxybid.com) At each auctions is someone from proxybid. They are connected to the internet and relay information on bid item, amount and sometimes condition. You can bid live or leave a max dollar amount. The proxy bidder will then bid for you. Like I said, I haven't used this site, but thought I would pass along the information. Good luck

Allen in Neb; Let me know what you are looking for as I have fellow farmers bring items of theres and ask if I can get rid of it for them. It ranges from very slightly used to antique horse drawn stuff. I also have a dealer that has asked to help him so there is another outlet also. Just let me know. Farmed all my life, quit rowcrops four years ago,had enough of minimum wage and below

Ya know, Allan, you make a good point. This website has proven time and time again that this country is full of good, decent people. I've seen the generosity and sincerity of the folks around here (even experienced it myself a couple of times!) I've even set this site up as my home page!

Thanks to everyone who contributes, especially you, Allan.

Now if ya lived closer i would be happy to help you out since i use to do it for a living and also did a bunch of buying for a buddy that way we could cover two to three sales at a time with me at one him at another and his boy at a third . He would tell me how much i could spend and give me a blank check and off we went usualy i would end up buying two to three semi loads . One time out in Ill. he told me to by gravity boxes and gear he forgot to tell me how many the only thing he told me was not to go over 400 bucks well i never even got that high i think the highest priced one was 325 but i bought 75 or 80 wagons plus what he bought . there was 4 long rows of them he was on two and i was on the other two we met at the end and he come over and asked me how i got along when i pulled two pockets of tickets out he just shook his head every one of them made money at the differant sales that we took them to and i use to buy for and old White Oliver dealer he liked the way i worked and i like the way he paid me 5% buyer fee plus an other 5% after he sold it and he would always kick in a 150 bucks for travel expences i use to tell him that i was going anyhow but that did not fase him .

You are welcum Allen Sir. Please forward Your bank is routing please number. I have hands in the air for you.

Yep Allen, I just got back from a church fundraiser where I bid on a pie against my state representative and local handy man. The kids are donating their summer (and pies) to help build three houses for needy church families. Where else but rural America? The pies brought between $50 and $130 odd dollars. I am so proud of my corner of the world where a handshake is better than dried ink on a bleached piece of paper. No where else in the world Allen. Bill

Yes Sir,

I know. Like John says, buyin old iron that is at least 30 years old is a total crap shoot anyhow, no matter how you cut it.

I've been in contact with this man for some time now and he has really been great about scoutin' out the different sales, snoopin' here and snoopin' there.

He sends me pictures of the machinery and we both talk it over and try to decide if this or that is a good 'un or a bad 'un. Then, there is another of you guys who lives down south of me a bit that I'm forever bending his ear on the value of things, 'cause he frequents the farm sales alot too.

Anyway, I've never met the guy other than thru the computer, but I trust him better than I do some of the neighbors around here.

He's a farmer type, know what I mean? :>)

Hey ya Allan, happy Sunday and thanks for the compliments for the folks at this site. I trust that most, yourself included are honest folks, and appreciate that myself. Best just to be straight forward and honest and hide nothing.

Folks accept us as we are, or the heck with them. If they don't put the food in your mouth, the roof over your head, or the money in your wallet, feed them fish. Not exactly sure what that means, but a buddy said that to the bartender as we were being tossed out of a bar decades ago, and I just never forgot it. LOL.

Time to hit the interstate back to Illinois to earn that living. Gotta go for now. By the way, diesel in Bristol, IN. $2.06 and $2.14 in Millersburg. Mmm!!!

Gotta go for now buddy, and good luck on the impliments and farm.

Some of this stuff is a crapshoot anyway. Someone else might get just as lucky as you or me. Still, it's tough to let someone else loose with my checkbook.....

I've been burned on tractors/equipment that I've scrutinized myself, and seen other people buy stuff I wouldn't haul home, and they've had incredible luck. Ya just never know....

Hmmmmm, Dunno

I can honestly say that I'd rather throw the dice with you fellas than go down to some of the local dealers.

Down there, ya know you're gonna loose; no doubt about it. :>(

UK is just saving it for when it counts, the NCAA championship. I'm sure you will agree with me Kyhayman? We were just letting them build up some false confidence. :)
