Could it be in a top of the line vehicle with all the bells and whistles and top trim level that you would get a better engine than in the same vehicle base model.I seem to have had 2 experiences where the base model doesn't seem to last as long as the loaded one. One from each of 2 major manufacturers. Or am I off base here.No need for names so as not to start a fight.Dan

I do not know in the auto field, but I know with a lawn mower engine there are differant grades of engines, depending on what the OEM wants to spend. The Sears, MTD, Merray, AYP,etc, box store mowers all use the cheap engines, Toro, Snapper, Lawn Boy, John Deere, the premium mowers buy a better grade of engine for their equipment, then if you buy a replacement engine from the a dealer, that engine will be the best quality you can get. Really stunned me when a rep told me that one day.

Many auto manufacturers have a larger displacement more powerfull engine available for the top line models. If that's what you mean, than the answer to your question is yes.

But if you're asking do they make a better version of two identical engines, that answer would be no.

Could be, but I aint thinking so.

Many many years ago as a young punk (I'm still a punk), I hired in a large bread manufacturing company to drive a truck. They didn't have a truck for me yet, so stuck me out making bread for a few days. Man them pans sure do get hot when they come out of the oven, and when you're stacking them after the hot bread is dumped onto the line, and that oily stuff soaks into your gloves - YOUCH!!! Anyway, by the end of the first day they put me on the bandsaw machine that cuts the loaves into 10 or 20 slices with 10 or 20 blades. But the funny thing was the wrappers. The 200 or so loaves through got so-and-so's wrappers, then the next 300 or so got so-and-so's wrappers, and so on. All came out of the same dough, same giant mixers. All had different prices on the store shelf. But after seeing how bread's made, I quit eaten bread. Never touch the stuff anymore. You guys eat bread? Ohhh man.

Mark

Just jokin about eating bread - love it, and ressemble a loaf(er).

That is interesting. You should see a pickle joint .Rotton looking, moldy on top with bugs all over the barrel.I was in Nabisco and I didnt eat any Oreos until near the end of the job.Any Oreos dumped off the line become hog feed I was told.It was a very clean plant, I have to admit.I snuck a couple hot Ritz crackers off the line.Ive heard if you ever work at Thumans you will never eat hot dogs againOnce you see that operation.I worked in a commercial bakery and the bakers are all sick of cakes and baked goods.

It was the same way in the egg plant I worked in. Same eggs, different cartons, different prices. I have my own chickens now so we haven't had store bought eggs in years.

I don't know DCM , for me it was other way around. I drove all the low class jalopys, v-dubs a indestructable class of auto- yeah no heat. Valiant ( push button ) geo metros , loved them. Anyway to make a long story short, I decided to go to the majors and got a caddy with all the neat stuff. BIG Mistake- all the bells fell off one by one and the whistles we not worth a toot- it became a money pit

The workers that build the cars and trucksget them at cost and generally buy a new one every year. they have people waiting for their year old cars with bated breath. When they order a new one it gets flagged at the begining of the assembly line as a brother's car and gets the kid glove treatment down the line, the best of everything. Thats why people are waitig cash in hand to buy them used. I wonder if John Deere employees get the same deal.
