Having trouble with slow speed stops. Pedal gets hard and makes groaning noise. Took it to the dealers service and they said anti lock sensors need cleaned. I've never heard of this before. Just wonder if anyone else has had this problem. 2000 gmc 1500 series 44000 miles.

very do it oyourself. theres a tone ring and a magntic sensor the "counts " each time the tone ring goes aroudn senses wheel speed and knows if one wheel is turning faster then the others. on your hub theres a plug in and if you find that follow the end of it thats the pickup for the tone ring. air hose and alot of brake clean take care of it. what i miss is that hub is a sealed unit no more just replacing or repacking wheel bearings its a sealed unit if that puppy goes out your looking at close to 400 bucks a piece cant just replace the 10 dollar bearing

If I had my way, I would never drive a vehicle with ABS. I absolutely hate them. See if there isn't some way to disable them.

I diabled mine, I can't stand anti-lock brakes. I first tried pulling the ABS fuse - but - then the automatic transmission would not shift out of first gear. I'm not sure I even want to know why. I put the fuse back and pulled the harness connector off the ABS control box - now all is fine (except the ABS warning light is on all the time). I've had several vehicles that had problems with the ABS going off that cleaning would not fix. A little bit of play in the wheel bearings can cause a false signal, probably some other things also. I wound NOT unhook them on a vehicle a younger person is driving. Too much of a learning curve involved. My youngest daughter, just turned 21, has never driven a car without ABS or fuel injection. She wanted to borrow my 85 Subaru 4WD one day this winter, but I decided it was a bad idea. No ABS, carbureted, manual four wheel drive instead of full-time AWD, etc. Stuff older people take for granted - like hitting the gas pedal to activate the choke, or pumping the brakes, or letting off the brakes in slippery conditions - seems easy if you've done it all your life - but I guess at this point with the younger drivers - why bother? It's a little confusing.

Is cleaning the sensors a do it yourself job, or something that the dealers shop should do? Thanks for your response.

ya this seems to be a real problem for gm. i have a 97 chevy 100,000+ when you come to a fast stop and start to slide the abs kicks in feels like there isnt any pads.(thats your abs keeping you from locking up your wheels and possibly slidind out of control; anyways had mine at the brake shop and the couldn't figure it. so they only charged me for the brake job 345.00 and said those brakes are always spongy. bull.... took it to the dealer and they said it was ethier the left or right but the computer wasnt sending out enough signal to tell witch side .told me just to drive it till it gets worse. i did and took it back 2 months later and they checked it out again and replaced the driver side.it was only another 745.00 and some change. so if you have problems on something this new id exercise my right and use that warranty." dust my a.." unless you men are muddin out in the fields.i personally think this is another known hidden recall, just like they did to my dodge until the warranty ran out. that was another 600 some. they have bad manifold gaskets on the 318cu in. good luck gary case
