This question is not about tractors but I do have a couple a ole Fords. Can anyone tell me how those old orchard heaters work. The ones with the tall chimney looking thing sticking up the top?? What kind of fuel do they use and how do you ignite them???

We filled ours with diesel fuel, then rolled a few pages of newspaper and stuck em in the fuel filler hole, you want the newspaper to stand up in the diesel fuel like a candle wik, lite the paper and don't close the fuel opening untill the diesel is burning. It will take 15 minutes or so to ignite the diesel. if the paper falls over in the fuel then it's a do over. And don't ever close the damper if it has one, to shut the fire off. don't cover the stack to kill the fire. always shut the air off at the at the base and let the fire die out before closing the damper or covering the stack.

On Green Acres they used Lisa's hotcakes and threw them on the ground or in a pan. Just throwing a match on them seemed to ignite them.

Fill it with kerosene, light paper towel and throw in hole in tank, repeat paper towel several times and sooner or later it lights up and you have heat.Thats how I have to do it....dont know what keeps it from blowing up!
